When I first started burning dvds I had skipping problems. I couldn't figure out what the issue was. Then my writer vendor put out a firmware upgrade and a write "mode" changing utility, and I haven't had any problems since. I have an HP 200i.

Moral. Make sure you have the most recent firmware from your vendor.

I'd try a different media.

the "R" type always has better compatibility than the "RW". Also, did you try viewing the DVD's on the NEC writer? If it sees them fine, it's probably the Proscan that doesn't like those brands. If the writer can't see them well either, it probably doesn't like them and writes poorly as well, killing any chance of the Proscan of reading them correctly.

I've found I can't use Memorex -RW media at all with my Pioneer -A03. And my older Sony 5-disc DVD changer can't see any of the -RW but works great with the -R.
