No video on PS2

I recently updated my home theatre room with an Epson 3800, Sony DN1080 and 4K AppleBox. Loving it!

I thought I would try and hook up my old PS2 (which hasn’t been turned on a few years) with its native cable which has RCA type ends for the receiver (no HDMI option). I’m getting audio but no video, and can’t figure out why.

There’s one option in the receiver’s Input settings, which has Optical, Coax or none, and I’ve tried all three.

Any ideas?

Maybe a bad cable.

Here is this option Amazon.com: PS2 to HDMI Converter Compatible Sony Playstation 2/ Playstation 3 Convert PS2 to HDMI Signal of Modern HDTV/Monitor/Projector via Ypbpr Signal: Electronics

My PS2 was in RGB output mode when I set it up a little while ago and my component inputs on my receiver wouldn't accept it, so maybe you're having the same issue. I had to change the video output mode blind to YPbPr to get a picture since there's no "power button" reset method on the PS2. Quick Google gives me this procedure (which will toggle the mode from whatever it currently is to the other):

Switch the console on making sure there is no disc in the tray.
After a minute or so press down once on the D pad and then press X
Then press down 3 times on the D pad and this should be the Component/RGB setting menu.
Press X to enter this menu and then press the D pad once to the Right and then press X again. This should change the output type.
It did take me a couple tries to get it right. I had to be very deliberate with my controller button presses.

^^^ Thanks. When you say "press the D pad", do you mean all four of them at once, or just one of them?
I just copied that from another forum, but every D-pad is described as either down or right, so

1) Switch the console on making sure there is no disc in the tray.
2) After a minute or so press DOWN once on the D pad and then press X
3) Then press DOWN 3 times on the D pad and this should be the Component/RGB setting menu.
4) Press X to enter this menu and then press the D pad once to the RIGHT and then press X again. This should change the output type.

There's also this video that describes it (the fact that the video says HDMI shouldn't matter):
I tried that a few times, but no fix. All the ones I read online stated waiting 10-20 seconds after turning machine on, so does it really require a minute or two?

Again, I don't have an HDMI adapter, just the original cable.
If you have audio you should be able to hear when the PS2 is booted up and just sitting in the regular menu. I think the minute or two is just being extra patient.

It is possible something is actually broken on your system after all.
I've ordered one those inexpensive HDMI adapters for PS2, so will give that a try.
I received the adapter this morning and gave it a try, but unfortunately still no video, even with repeated attempts with the YPbPr switch thing. So I guess there's either something wrong with the unit itself, or the Sony DN1080 receiver doesn't like something about it. Shrug.
Did you ever get it sorted? I have exact same problem

Which is what? If sound and no video maybe set your input assign options on the avr. That's the only suggestion I have. A ps2. Man that's getting old. I tried playing games on my ps2 a few years ago. Just couldn't do it for long. 😂 My ps3 yea but not the 2.
