So I've been scouring high and low for and xp30 knowing that the rp82 is impossible to find. I've struck out twice ordering the xp30 but stumbled onto a place that still listed the rp82. I went ahead and ordered it knowing that it was probably an un-updated website but low and behold I got an email confirmation that they were able to find one and will ship it out today or tomarrow. Score! Yes, I am braggin a little but I just wanted to bring some hope for those of you who are still looking for the elusive dvd player. I'll update this thread again with the name of the retailer once I receive the product. I just want to make sure i get mine first. Thanks.

What is so special about the Panasonic rp82? I see this component all over the AVS Forum.

Is it better than a Samsung DVD-HD1000, that is the player that I am currently using?

Lemme know...

The RP-82 doesn't have that pesky DVI-D connection or output 720p/1080i, which can really cause problems...

...when watching any other playback source.

Segaboy,

It's pretty much why everyone is going nuts over the Rp-82.

RJ,

My Samsung DVD-HD1000 does not feature a DVI output. It only has 3-RCA wideband component video output that can do 1080i, 720p, or 480p. There is also a 'fixed' 3-RCA component video output that does only 480i. This is independent of the HD/ED output.

Again, is the RP-82 a superior machine to my Samsung, I saw a RP-82 at a Best Buy in the box the other day and passed on it...Should I return and get it???
I don't remember best buy carrying the rp82 but if you can find it still I would jump on it and test it for yourself. You'll never know which you'll like better until you try.

Sorry for my smart alec response. I have no experience with the Samsung unit. However, the RP-82 is one of the best at among those that output 480p.

The Samsung may well be a superior player. Since you could always return the RP-82, I suggest you pick it up and make a comparison and report your observations.

Segaboy, HD1000 is state of the art and cost $1500. Panny RP82 is 480p or 480i only and cost $200 when it first came out. Now you can't find it due to it being out of production. You can still buy XP30 or XP50 (Panny) with the same guts (XP30 does not have DVD-A) for $200-400. So don't worry, you still have one of the best player around, for now :D
Where is Floyds Knobs? That a real town?
I ordered it for $200 + Shipping.
Floyds Knobs, IN is 15' across from Ohio River of Louisville, KY. It is a real town. It's named for a buch of hills. We have a great view of the Louisville Skyline and the Ohio River. Not sure how it gets its name though. It's great as it's country living (I have 4 acre on my house) with < 30 min. access to Louisville's shopping, sports (Louisville Cardinal), and culture.

I received the dvd player yesterday. It came double boxed and works flawlessly. I am very pleased. Good Luck to all.

That's a good price. To bad there all sold out ... :(

The price is right...

It says PA500 on my receipt - I went to the store because it was close by.
