I was reading the specs for screens at Da-Lite, and I came across their 69" x 92" High Power screen that has an advertised "nominal diagonal" of 120" ... Now, I'm wondering what this is, because sqr(69^2 + 92^2) = 115" ... How did they get the extra 5 "nominal" inches?
Below is the response I received from Da-Lite ... it sounds like this "industry standard" is the same thing that got all the PC monitor manufactures in trouble for the various (exaggerated) ways that they claimed monitor size. Bascially, you don't really get 120" as advertised.
Also, Does anyone have a Da-Lite screen this size -- are the seams intrusive to viewing? The claimed you cannot see the seems when an image is projected onto it, only when the lights are on.

"Thank you for your inquiry with Da-Lite Screen. I do not though, have a great answer regarding your inquiry. The Nominal diagionals are an industry standard in the audio visual market. A 69" x 92" screen is referred to as a 120" diag even though its calculation are somewhat off. If you are needing it to be an acutual diag. 120" then all screens are made to order and can therefore be formated to the aspect ratio you are needing. This would just need to be specified on the purchase order." "The High Power Fabric will be seamless up to 6'. As long as you dont exceed this dimension in more than one direction it will be seamless." |
