I'm thinking about getting a couple Bose 301 speakers as my main front speakers for my HT system, but noticed that they were un-sheilded and have heard that the magnetic field my interfer with my TV and other components. My question is am I worried over nothing or how far away from my TV (53' Sony Rear Proj) should they be. Thanks in advance for anyones assistance.

The electronics that would be affected by the speaker's magnetic field are in the base of a RPTV. If you don't place them next to the base, there probably won't be any interference. To make sure of this, (with the TV on) grab one of the speakers and hold it next to the screen(or wherever you think you would position it). If there is any distortion of geometry or color, move the speaker away until the picture is normal.

Shielding shouldn't be a big problem for the front left/right speakers and a projection TV. The speakers should be quite far apart.

Make sure that you fully research the basic requirements for good 5.1 channel surround sound speakers before you make the purchase so that you get the most bang for the buck.

I would recommend a good quality bookshelf speaker with a 6 inch woofer and a 1-inch dome tweeter as the most cost effective approach. A good tweeter is the most important aspect of speaker design.

The lack of shielding will not be a problem for fronts. The center will be touchy if it's mounted low but not if it's mounted high.

I don't want to heat up heat up the anti-Bose show any more. You're going toward what we have and we like it.

Bose 201s left & right

Bose 701s alternate left & right

Bose separate center speaker (not sure of the model)

Bose 201s for sides & rear surround

Parts Express Titanic 10" Powered Sub-Woofer

2 Aura Pro Bass Shakers attached to the floor driven by a 120w sub-woofer amp w/o rumble filter.

Left, Center, and Right need to be at about the same height and distance. It took us a while to mount them on the wall. Yes, it all matters. That's where the 201s are. The 701s on the floor get used more for music.

I'll agree w/ folks that the Bose runs a bit high $$$. We have an outlet store and have been able to get good deals. I don't understand their HT kits at all but that's me.

Conventional Bose wisdom says they have no highs or lows. We have the opposite trouble. I know why we have plenty of lows (we can shake the entire house). But we do great at the highs too. The mids need a bit of boost in our setup.
