Read Vance Dickason's Loudspeaker Design Cookbook, Siegfried Linkwitz's web-site (
http://www.linkwitzlab.com ), and John K's website (
http://www.musicanddesign.com ),. Earl Geddes has done some interesting work on wave guides and has a sub-bass concept. Tom Danley's Unity Sumation aperture is interesting too.
Realize that 95% of the speakers out there suffer from the same flawed physics and build something better or settle for something conventional.
Depending on your inclination (do you want good speakers in a a month or three, or do you want to spend years on the hobby?) either start building or start designing.
