I'm working through all the different options to determine what I need to build an HTPC. The breadth and variety of options is sometimes staggering.

My goals are:

- Playback of archived DVDs

- Timeshifting analog and digital cable

- Live viewing of Analog and digital cable

My current hardware:

- Hitachi 57s500 HDTV

- WinTV PVR-250 (this will go into a new PC that will be the HTPC)

Software:

- SageTV for TV recording/viewing

- MyHTPC for overall management

- Zoomplayer for DVD playback

- Dscalar? Not exactly sure where this fits in the process

Wiring:

- Based on reading a number of posts I'm planning on splitting the cable signal x3.

1. Analog feed to Hitachi

2. Analog feed to Cable input on PVR-250

3. Digital feed to Cable Box. Cable box outputs are:

- Digital HD output to Hitachi

- Digital SD output to component input on PVR-250

Now, comes the question (finally): What are my best options for connecting the HTPC to the Hitachi with the maximum PQ?

I don't plan on having a monitor on the HTPC, so the TV will be the primary display. Therefore, the desktop (or MyHTPC) will display on the TV like it was a huge computer monitor. I'm assuming setting up recordings through Sage will be done just like on a PC, as well as viewing live, recorded material.

So, I'm thinking that I just need a video card that can use the DVI port to connect to on the Hitachi. Will any VGA output do, or do I need a selected TV-out card to drive the HDTV?

Thanks.

Ray.

Here is a schematic for what I'm thinking about.
