Which is the better player and why?

Is the 1080p/60 compromised to the point where it really is best to just go with 1080i?

I have both players but only one of my TV's can accept 1080p and that at 1080p/60. I was thinking of running the A30 with that TV but if there is no advantage of the A30 over the A2 I'll just leave the A2 in place.

Doing a search might give you more detailed information but a quick answer would be A30 supports 1080p and A2/A3 only supports 1080i. While some would argue the 1080p PQ of the A30 sucks anyways, others would argue it depends on your TV.

If you assume 1080p sucks on the A30, or if your TV doesn't even support 1080p (like mine) then the only difference between A30 and A2/A3 is the upconverting capability. The A30 and A2/A3 use a different upconvert chip, and it is reported the A30 does a better upconverting job.

I have not seen A30's upconvert so I can't comment how much better it is than the A2/A3. I can, however, tell you the A3 (and A2) is an amazing upconvert DVD player already.

Thanks. I searched the forums but couldnt make out the facts you laid out as clearly.

Sounds like I should try out the A30 in my main system and compare the 1080p with the 1080i. I thought if it was certain that the A2 was a far better player then I wouldnt have bothered.

Thanks again.

Cheers!
