noob question about Sony NS999ES

In one of the threads here I found a link to a site that presented the results of DVD player shoot outs, and the 999ES didn't fare so well for many of the tests. I know next to nothing about DVD players, as I have never owned one, but I am looking for a player that can also function in my hifi system as a quality CD player and that outputs 480i for an Infocus 4805 . The 999ES seems to fit that bill as it has a nice build quality and is known for sounding pretty good on cd/sacd. However, should I be concerned about the poor review of its video performance. How many of the tested parameters are due to the de-interlacing in the player, and what functions does the player provide if you bypass the internal de-interlacing for a 48i signal out to a prjector that has its own chip for that? Hope my intent is claear here-- I assume at least one of you will know the shootout website I am refering to so I dont have to search again for the link.

If there is some reason to avoid the NS999ES is there a suitable alternative that will give me decent to excellent cd playback and 480i out?

TIA Dr. Crane
