Hello all,

Sorry for the noob or naive question but I am looking to do a DIY sub for the first time. Originally was looking at purchasing a commercial sub but thanks to kgveteran and some other good folks who steered me to this forum, I think I am going to at least give it a shot and do my due dilligence.

Here is what I am looking at:

Room size: 21x11x9

Budget: $1,200

Performance requirements: on par or rivals that of Epik Conquest

Ok what do I need? =)

Have you got any box size restraints? Can you do multiple subs? With that budget you could get away with two maelstroms in sealed boxes and an ep2500 to power them.

I would prefer to do just one box if I can get away with it.

After all the conquest is just one box =)

My size constraints are probably no bigger than the Epik Conquest.

If he plans on having the amp in the listening area...I'd steer clear of the ep2500 due to fan noise, even with the modded fan..it's still going to be audible.

Since he's probably looking to build a box...why not just get a plate amp? I realize you can get good bang for the buck using the EP2500 but I just wonder if that much power is a bit overrated for most users.

I've got the EP1500, its good but if I had to do it over it would have went with a plate amp.

to have conquest performance, you need a sub that is designed like a conquest.

alternatively, you could do a passive radiator sub. that may achieve similar performance in a smaller enclosure, but will cost more money because of the passive radiator drivers.

usabrian's advice to look through the subwoofer index for ideas is a good place to start. that' why i created it.
