Just bought a new Onkyo HT-S3300 and am setting it up. I was looking for a compact stereo system and thought getting one of these would be a better deal. I like it - but do have a couple of questions!

- I have a DVR cable box and DVD/BD player with HDMI but my TV does not. So it seems like I cant use HDMI then since the receiver wont convert it - is that correct?

- When I do get a TV supporting HDMI it looks like I cant get the audio on this system unless the TV has ARC. Am I understanding that right? If so, it sure seems odd!

- Looks like I should hook up the DTV and DVD with component video then. Both support optical audio so should I go with that? That will let me take advantage of any 5.1 programming or disks - is that right?

Thanks for helping a noob! Guess now I'll finally have to upgrade my old CRT TV....

Correct, but I don't think there is any receiver that converts from HDMI to something else. There are quite a few that convert to HDMI, though.

The ARC is for audio coming from your TV's tuner to the receiver, so you don't need to hook up an additional audio cable. If your TV doesn't do the tuning, you don't need to use the ARC.

Yeah, that will work fine.
