Noobie coming home from Hell!

1015 Views 14 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  Audiojan
So I am getting home from afghanistan in two days and I am ordering my new home theater system. I have been doing a lot of research around here and I just ordered the Jamo S606HCS3 and I order the onkyo 509 mainly because of the cheapness and the network and 3d capability. I also order a Samsung PN51D550. I know were to order wires but I have a weird living room, I will ask about placement when I get home so I can take pics of my area so you all can help.
But I need to order wires and such and I need to know what to order. I know I will need to buy a sub but I am not sure on what sub I should get either trying to stay under 250. Any and all help is much appreciated.

This seems to be a popular recommendation for those on a tighter budget.

BIC America F12, currently 185 at Amazon.

Best Regards

KvE
Monoprice for the wires and interconnects.

The F12 or the Lava 12" are recommended for your price range. (The Lava is just over your price range but might be worth it. There is a 15% discount for AVS members)
Welcome back!

Both the BIC F12 or Lava are excellent choices within your budget.
Welcome back and thank you for your service! Sounds like you have chosen an excellent system..heard nothing but good things about the s606 Jamo system! that system has built in 8" woofers, so if you didn't get a real sub right away, you might be okay (at least for music).
Looks like a good system that'll provide long enjoyment. Definitely monoprice for cables/interconnects/etc. They're the best deal around consistently. Also, push for as much sub as possible since it'll take the most punishment, music and movie-wise. Let us know when the equipment arrives and we'll help set it up with you.

Welcome back to some normalcy too, hopefully. Thanks for your service!

EDIT:

On further investigation, it looks as though those Jamo speakers have built-in subs (powered?) for the mains? If they do, and even better, if they have separate powered sub RCA inputs for those subs, you could easily forego the separate sub purchase for now and see if the built-ins satisfy you. Ideally you'd like to optimize the sub box placement in the room, but many times built in subs can work well too. Perhaps I've got the wrong speakers, or since I haven't read the specs I'm not adequately informed, so take my advice accordingly.
Welcome back and Thank you for serving, check out the subwoofer section too, Jamo is good stuff enjoy
I also want to thank you for your service to our country. The Jamos are a bit laid back and should sound good. If you eventually want to change them out for more powerful speakers, there are options. Just hit up this forum anytime for assistance.

They are just regular 8" woofers, not a subwoofer.

By the way the S606 weighs more than the 24.1 lbs that Vanns has listed. They're actually 24.1kg which is 51 lbs. Nice heavy towers.
The Jamo 606 towers have a built in "woofer" on the enclosure side, but they are not in the same class as a powered subwoofer.

for speaker wiring, 14 gauge is usually adequate (and in some cases a little overkill) for most home theater setups. I personally prefer the sheathed style wire to the clear insulation type....your choice

HDMI, subwoofer cable, red/white audio cables - all available from Monoprice

Welcome back, and Afghanistan has been rough on everybody.

Absolutely, even on Canadians this time.

Make sure you play safe until you transition out!

When you place your order, make sure you call it in and mention that you are a veteran. Many companies will give you a discount as a thank you for your service to keep our country safe.
