I have noticed that many of my mp3's are recorded at different volume levels, and when playing them back through my home stereo, there are obvious song to song volume differences.

I know there is software that will normalize volumes when encoding mp3's, but is there anything that can normalize playback volume?

Thanks

For this purpose, I use MP3Gain software (freeware). I don't remember the site, but just do a search on Google and you should be set. This program is really great, it analyzes every mp3 and then you decide at which db level to modify your song. Strongly recommended

Thanks for the responses.

MP3Gain seems to be exactly what I'm looking for.

Does anyone know... once the mp3's are "normalized" by the software, can they be played back in any mp3 player??? Or is there a need for a special player that supports MP3Gain??

Thanks

Yes, it just changes the info in the tag, so the volume is changed, and it works on any player. But why use another program than J. River's Media Center 9 to play MP3's! ;)
