I have a JVC HR-S3600U SVHS VCR with the ususal RCA type audio/video (red, white yellow) cable into a Denon AVR-3300 receiver. I also have a Toshiba SD-5109 hooked into the receiver via a coaxial digital cable. The Dolby digital is fine. My problem is that I can't get surround sound from the VCR to the receiver either from cable TV ( I use the VCR as a tuner), or from movie tapes. I get theses fine in another room hooked similarly with different equipment, ( not quite as high end, just works better). I think I've tried every permutation, even read the manuals in a burst of desperation. Any ideas?

Thanks for your input. I switched the audio input to "CD" in a different section from the VCR and connected the SVHS input directly to my projector. It worked. Why the audio in the VCR section didn't transmit the surround info must be one of those mysteries of life.
