I've just received a Dell 2.4Ghz p4 with 512Mb ram and GeForce 64Mb video card. I would like to be able to use "DeScaler" on all my s-video connections (Sat tv and SVHS video). I haven't seen a lot of info on using the notebook as a HTPC. I've done a lot of reading on this forum and it seems like I need some type of capture card, either USB or 1394 capable and of course it would have to be able to interface with the DeScaler software. Any suggestions on a course of action would be appreciated.

Unfortunately you won't be able to use DScaler if your HTPC is a laptop. DScaler only works with the chipsets found on various PCI tuner/capture cards. It doesn't even work on all of those. For a laptop, you'd have to go with an external USB or Firewire capture solution. Or perhaps a PC card. None of those types of devices would work with DScaler.
