My Situation:

Newly remodeled 6 year old house with 14X25 (10' ceiling, tile floors) great room. Have 24"deep 52" wide 8' tall cubby for A/V equipment (will have doored lower unit with granite top). Plan to peerless mount hitachi 42" HD Plasma (plus Dish HD DVR providing 1 wired service and 1 wireless tv service) in cubby. Using Sharp Aquos 32" portable as wireless tv in other rooms as necessary (generally will be bedroom tv). Have bedroom, patio and great room ceiling speakers (8" round cutouts) wired to 'cubby'. I need help selecting a receiver and plan on getting a blu-ray player. I will use the setup for both music and tv sound (I have 8 gig of music and just started a collection of video). I have a budget of 3k.

any help/suggestions greatly appreciated.

I would think one of the newer middle of the road Yamaha receivers with HDMI switching capability and automatic room setup features might work.

Here is a table of the Yamaha receivers you can do some reading to figure out which features will do your job:

Maybe this guy:

OR, look at a top of the line onkyo. This thing can decode just about whatever new sound format you throw at it.
