Ntsc/atsc Tuner for Panny TH-37PWD7UY?

558 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  yobob
Hi,

I am serious considering the Panasonic TH-37PWD7UY which doesn't have a standard TV tuner or an HDTV tuner. Any recommendations for a top NTSC/ATSC model? Any recommendations for speakers that run on 8 watts each? Any recommendations for an in-door antenna? I live in an apartment so attic units won't work for me.

Thanks for your comments.

The LST4200A gets great reviews over on the HD hardware threads. Made by LG.

Do a Google and you'll find it.

If you want to run speakers from your 7UY, head to Radio Shack and check out their offerings.
Why are you getting a commercial model if you want all the features of the consumer model? You'll end up paying more because a decent atsc tuner is about $300, a stand is about $200-300, matching Panny speakers are another $300 (unless you really want ugly cheap speakers next to your new plasma) and the cable to the atsc tuner is another $50. Then when it's all together, it's not integrated, you'll have an external receiver box, the remotes will be seperate and you'll have extra wires for power, video and audio to contend with.

Don't get me wrong, I have a 7UY and I did it because I don't use the stand or atsc tuner (I have sat tv) or speakers (I use my HT) but in your case, it's just not worth it.
Buellwinkle,

Thanks for your comment. I'm a newbie living in a small apartment wanting a quality plasma display in the 30" to 32" range. I did extensive research but couldn't find any with top reviews. So, I went up to the 37" models. The only 37 incher I found to be highly rated was the 7UY. Since HDTV is still an evolving technology, I wanted a display without the HDTV built-in so I could upgrade at a later date. Someone suggested I get the Sony KD-34XBR960 which received an 8.8 rating by CNET. However, this is a monster direct view CRT and is way too large for my residence.

I also do not want to subscribe to any cable or alternative services. So, maybe I should rethink having a display with the built-in NTSC/ATSC tuner and speakers. Can you or anyone else suggest a top 30" - 37" plasma display? Thanks for your comments.

If you can find one (they're in the process of being discontinued), look for a Panasonic TH-37PD25UP. It's the consumer equivalent.

I saw one in Sears a couple days ago, priced at the MSRP.
