I am looking to replace by B&K 200.7 amp with 3 mono blocks and a 2 channel for the rear. I recently heard the Nuforce Ref 9s and they sounded great. Extra bonus is the size. Can someone explain how they could possibly match up sonically with something like a Bryston 4bsst? can a digital amp truly be an equal to the traditional amp?

its too subjective a question - and it works for some people and doesn't for others.


Considering there are any number of kilobuck amps out there, the ref9 is good enough to be called "Amplifier of the Year" by an audio specialist magazine. In fact, way back in 1998 the TacT Audio Millennium amp had already gotten rave reviews for its sound. Plus, development is still continuing in this area so they can only get better.


You'll notice that for the most part - the most expensive class-D amps are always compared to the most expensive traditional class-A amplifiers, not something in the same price range, which it would trounce immediately.


You have to (isn't this true always) listen for yourself, AND keep an open mind (ear)
