I receive the following error when initiating video playback from within the Plex app on my Shield: "An error occurred while attempting to play this video..."
I have tried all of the other suggested solutions (turning off audio bypass, switching audio streams, changing subtitles, disabling h.264, etc.).
I've even reinstalled the Plex app and even reset and reinstalled my entire Nvidia Shield.
I stream locally from my Synology 7.0 NAS which is running the Plex app.
All other Plex clients on the network work except for the Shield (including Windows web and Android OS on my LG CX TV).
Everything was working perfectly for over a year until suddenly today this. Any help is appreciated, but really I'm not quite sure what else to try.
Based on resetting the Shield, now I'm thinking it's some server/NAS side issue with the Plex server?
I've enabled read/write permissions on all the required folders including the plexmediaserver volume already.
I got the same error and the only workaround that works for me is to “uninstall” plex and plex server, which reverts them to their original versions. It looks super dated but plays at least.
Any updates on this. i have 2 shields one is a pro. my plex SERVER is running on a dedicated pc. all files worked perfectly until a few weeks ago now different random files will work on one and not the other.
Did you ever find a resolution? The same thing happened to me. Worked fine for a year until today. Nothing changed with my network, the app on shield pro or the server on my NAS. It works fine from every other device in my home other than my shield pro.
Just bought Nvidia Shield so I can play my movies with True HD audio and now this. Now I need to stick with the Apple TV PCM conversion and a Shield as a paper holder. Any solutions?

I had the exact problem with my Shield playing from my NAS. I scoured the internet without any joy.
I then started playing around with settings in the Shield Plex app. Under SETTINGS>VIDEO QUALITY>ADJUST AUTOMATICALLY it was OFF and I changed it to ON.
