I have not used my HDTV system for a while due to nice summer weather and summer activities so when I did dust off the Toshiba 56H80 and my dst3000 for the upcoming fall line up and some sports I had to reprogram my favorite channel list and do a rescan of my Radio Shack double bow tie UHF antenna inputs. I noticed I picked up a PBS HDTV Demonstration channel but have yet to see a picture or any content from this channel, I belive this is broadcasted out of Brooklyn and still in low power output testing.

I still get great HD pictures on CBS-DT / WNBC-DT / WABC-DT / but noticed that the FOX feed is now PAX, and just a horrible picture, it was never like that before. As a matter of fact on my DirecTV 255 channel its the same feed, except its a much better picture. So what happened to the local FOX DT UHF feed?? I would figure Vic Cruz could fill me in on what happened, but can anyone explain ??

WCBSDT 2-2 Great HD and regular broadcasts

WNBCDT 4-2 Great HD and regular broadcasts

**WNYWDT 5-2 regular broadcasts terrible **

WABCDT 7-2 Great HD and regular broadcasts

WWORDT 9-2 regular broadcasts OK

WPIXDT 11-2 Great HD NY Mets and regular broadcasts OK

WNETDT 13-2 PBS HD Demonstration Channel low power (breaking up)

Who's Vic Cruz? http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif

Welcome back, Graphics. Let's see if we can bring you up to date:

1) The first thing I see strange is that your STB picks up all the stations on subchannel 2. My Dish 6000 picks up all those stations on subchannel 1, except for WWOR-DT which is on 38-2. I find it even stranger that your STB is remapping WWOR-DT to 9-2 since they are not transmitting any PSIP information for the STB to remap. Hmmmmmm.....

2) Are you sure that you're receiving PAX on 5-2? I am getting the usual FOX digital programming on 5-1 ("Malcolm in the Middle" and "Grounded for Life" were playing just now in 16:9 480p). Is it possible that you're tuning to the analog PAX station (ch. 31) and that's why the picture looks terrible?

3) The PBS station that you're getting on 13-2 is not WNYE-DT (ch. 24) from Brooklyn, but WNET-DT (ch. 61) from the World Trade Center. It just came online last month and it is running at full power but a lot of people are having intermittent problems getting stable reception. See this thread and this thread for reference. They are broadcasting "Little Women" in HD right now and it looks great.

I suggest you try to reprogram WNYW-DT (ch. 44) manually and see what happens, and see if you can get better reception out of WNET-DT. This one is worth it!

I am red faced over the Vic Cruz quote...sorry to my NY Mets buddy of course its Vic Ruiz http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

All references to i.e. 2-2 or 4-2 my mistake its 2-1 or 4-1.

I tried this morning the PBS HD demo it was awesome, last night it was un watchable, they still have a breaking up problem as the threads you posted also state . Now this morning I had FOX 5-1 and the information was Good Day New York, how ever the same feed WPXN channel 31 and 255 (PAX) is the same feed I get on FOX 5-1 ? Now this is strange. I unplugged again set back to factory (rescanned the UHF antenna) defaults 5-1 still broadcasts as stated above??

The PAX on 5-1 WYNYDT has been happening to me for the last few weeks. You can get around it by entering in 44-1. Your DST-3000 will re-map it to 5-1. However, you will then see two 5-1's on your guide. One for 5-1 WYNYDT and one for 5-1 Local. The "Local" one will be for the real WYNYDT.

You can then go into the Channel list and remove the first 5-1 from the guide. The biggest problem with this soultion is that when you enter 5-1 directly into your remote control, you will get the PAX version. You will need to press the "Channel Up" button to get to the correct version.

That worked Bill! Thanks! I put the 44-1 in my Favorite Channels and a second or so goes (Not Available) then the FOX local feed kicks in. That's still weird that when you do a scan of the UHF/OTA availability that the 5-1 is listed as WNYWDT with a FOX logo and a PAX feed. Also the 44-1 is not listed as availability? Another weird happening!

Okay then I'll live without the FOX logo in my favorite channels list then. Again thanks for the help guys!
