Looks like I won't have the tower in my own backyard. But Governor's Island will be a tough sell to historians and envioronmentalists. Let's hope we get it soon !

I spent almost a year of my life on that island back in the early eighties attending electronics training in the Coast Guard. The northern half of the island is covered with old army houses, barracks plus several ancient sandstone fortifications, relics of the old colonial days.

The southern flatter half of the island contains ball fields, an apartment complex and swimming facilites. This portion of the island is partially man made, could the man made land fill support the stresses produced by a tall narrow footprint? If not than it would have to reside on the historical part of the island and yes I beleive this would create a point of conflict with historians and naturalists.
