Although a longshot: Try 1368*768 - I know it sounds a bit silly...
About DVI: There is rumors that DVI-D is not supported over 1280*1024, and the NEC (and a few other 50 and 60 inch plasmas) has 1365/1366 pixels in one direction. So this might be a problem.
