Hi all,

I recently aquired a Draper Targa motorized screen. It's 92x52 and is mounted on the ceiling which is 7'-7" high by two S-hooks. I now have an odd echo coming from the slot opening on the bottom of the housing where the screen comes out. It sounds very weird.

I plan on building a soffit and enclosing the housing to give it a built-in look when I remodel the room. Will mounting it more permanently like this fix it?

What's the best way to eliminate this echo?

Thanks!

Is this echo present at all times? Also, where are your speakers in relation to the screen?

Hi Bob,

Yeah, it's pretty much there all the time. When the sceen is down it's not as noticeable (i guess the screen itself reduces the echo). But when it's up you can really notice it when you're talking and standing near the case (3-4 ft away).

My speakers (Bose cubes on stands) are on either side of the screen just below horizontal centerline. Center speaker is below screen on centerline. Sub next to that.

I guess the sound from the speakers is travelling up into the cylinder and bouncing around.

Some things which might help are:

moving the screen forward

moving the speakers lower

replacing screen with a disappearing type that has a door covering the opening

Using a fixed perforated screen with the speakers behind the screen

Perhaps building a soffit around the screen would block sound from reaching the cylinder holing the screen.
