This has been happening for awhile now and I don't know what's causing it.

The noise happens intermittently - some days it will happen, others not (more often it does occur). When it does occur it happens maybe one to four times per hour. Let's see if I can describe it adequately. It sounds like a buzz that's quickly broken up over a course of 2-3 seconds. It's not always the same speaker either. It first happened in my rear surround, but most recently it's coming from the front.

I thought it was my receiver initially, but I recently upgraded my speakers and receiver(from JBL/Sony to Onix/Yamaha respectively) and the problem noise still occurs.

It could be coming from the cd or dvd player. Have you tried different sources? I had a similar problem but mine turned out to be a bad circuit in my Preamp/processor.

Also if you have the cable going through your reciever you may want to try it without as a test. I have seen a lot of ground loop problems caused by the cable box. Though admittenlly a ground loop is more of a continuouse humm, but worth a try none the less.

Yes, it's happened using the DVD player and regular cable TV. The DVD is connected via coaxial to the receiver and the cable TV box is using an optical connection to the receiver.
