Odd walled room re-design help

Not feeling my currently theater/computer room setup thinking of redesigning. However if I move to the new design show below the angled wall limits the tv height to 57 inches. Which also will put the center channel a whole 19 inches off the ground if mounted at the bottom of the TV. Anyone got any pointers? Should I stick with what I got or go for the new layout?

Current Hardware
  • Vizio Quantum X 75"
  • Emotiva C1+ Center
  • Emotiva T-Zeros L,R Channel
  • Emotiva ?? Rear Channel coming soon
  • Acoustech 12" Sub
  • Sony STR-DN860

Current mess
The couch is a sectional so I can remove the corner piece and make it one long couch.

I like the new layout because it could improve the sightlines pretty simply. Depending on your future desires for screen size, you could potentially build out a faux wall a bit closer to the ceiling, to work around that roofline.
Should I mount the center channel above and angle it down or below and angle it up?

Try both and see what you prefer. Have someone hold it up.

Have you measured the average seated height of a viewer, then tried to center the TV at that height? I'd measure that out, to determine optimal viewing angle, then see if the upper or lower end has more room for the speaker. I'd hate to mount the screen too low, to fit the center channel, then find that you have a crik in your neck after watching movies.

YMMV, but I think it's easier to point a speaker than a viewing screen.

Just took a measurement tv center would be at about 39" viewer eye height would be 40-41" so pretty close if I mount the tv right on the edge of the angled ceiling. Viewing distance would also be right in the optimal range of 10' away from the TV. I would have to find away to mount the heavy emotiva C1+ center channel above the tv like below.

Yup, I agree, those are solid numbers. You might consider sticking a black piece of construction paper (or similar) up there, to see if you find it distracting?
As a rule, I want to say that I see primarily "lower placed" center channels, but I'm not sure if it's aesthetics or performance?

Lower is a much easier mounting option guess Ill try it out.

Agreed. Heck, you can always do the college "put it on a stack of books or a cinderblock" to test it out. :D
If you think the TV may be too low, instead of mounting it flat to the wall, as you move it forward (on a stand), then you can raise it as the sloped wall allows.
A stand may have a shelf for the center channel below the TV as well.

Additionally, you may want to consider the corner where it appears you're planning to put the equipment for the subwoofer, as it may be the best corner for boundary reinforcement.
The opposite corner where you currently have the sub planned appears to be further away from the seating and has the open space with the stairs opposite it.
A sub-crawl might be able to confirm that quickly.

Already re-mounted I was able to get a center tv level to exactly 40" with eye level since the mount held the tv off the wall a few inches. Everything is in the optimal range now.

Just get the center channel up to the bottom of the screen. That angle of the wall will make Atmos quite easy, when you are ready for the next step.
I was just wondering about atmos emotiva has some rears with it can you mix speakers?
