I picked up an entry-level 5740 Yamaha 6.1 receiver and it has three subwoofer options: sub, front, both. My cutoff is 60Hz set on the receiver. With true LFE signals, such as a DVD or Xbox360 game, I get bass from the sub when it is set to SUB or BOTH. When I have any other signal, I can only get a signal to the sub when using the BOTH option. The problem is, I don't want my mains to attempt low freqs at high volume levels, but when I want to listen to music, I can't get the sub to output bass without the BOTH option.


WTF is going on?

No, they are all set to large, since they are all very nice full-range speakers... Hmm, I'll change it and see what happens. Thanks for the idea.
