Just curious more than anything else. I'm not looking for any specific trend or sales analyzing.

Of the 100 or so BDs I own, 50% are catalog titles. I try only to duplicate my favorite titles I own as well (where aplicable) even if the BD quality is that much better. Extras don't really influence a purchase either way as well.

50%... And growing as I buy BD discs here and there and give away DVDs to family. Hard to watch DVD. Soon enough my DVD collection of 150 discs will be gone (and good riddance).. It looks (and sounds) too much like VHS comparatively. Can't watch it anymore

80% at least. I'm not in this for new movies. I want to see movies that have stood the test of time for me, in the most refined presentation I can.

I remember once being in the only local store with a good selection of LDs back in the day, when the new releases for the week came out. They highlighted them on one wall and after thoroughly casing the bins and finding the catalog titles I was interested in, I walked over and scanned the new releases. Rising Sun was stickered at $40 or $50, $10 more expensive than some MGM classic I had in my hands. I thought to myself "Are there really people excited that this got released today? Are they going to look through their collections a year or two from now and think 'I can't believe how lucky I am to have Rising Sun to watch anytime I want' or are they going to be saying "wtf was I thinking?'".

There are exceptions, of course- I personally can't wait to dive in to Mad Men Season 2 and the BSG set when they come in. But the vast majority of new releases each week are just new iterations of Rising Sun to me.

For me, it's over 90% (I've got about 135 BDs).

I'm always amused when I see the weekly Top 20 BD sellers listed and I own literally NONE of them. No Dark Knight. No Iron Man. No Transformers. The only superhero movie I own is the 1966 Batman.

That's also a big reason why BD is less of a financial burden for me. Catalogue titles are often easy to find for well under $20.00...some as low as $10.00.

Some interesting feedback. I never thought the percentage would all that high taken into account it probably is something one already owns. Obviously the consenus is that SD DVDs pale in comparison to the BDs but I'm still surprised. I suppose if it is cheap enough and one likes the movie enough.....
