Is anyone else curious how Sony curved the LCD screen without causing viewing angle and uniformity issues?

I always thought only OLED panels could be curved not LCD panels.

Bump - anyone see this in the wild?

I'm also curious about input lag - would this set up a good choice for gaming?

Looks awesome in the wild, 3d is passive and is also very very good. Saw it in store so not sure about black levels, but for $4000 they should be pretty good. Not sure about input lag, but I'm also interested in this due to gaming.

displaylag.com just tested the S990A and it got an excellent score of just 18ms!

Anyone pick one of these up yet? It's a $1500 premium over the W850a, but has passive 3D like the X900 series. (I assume this and the W850a are the same for picture quality other than the curve.)

I really like Sony's lineup for their 18ms input lag. There doesn't seem to be any other big TVs in that ballpark for those that want to game.

I still do not see any reviews on this set besides what was announced when it launched. I like the fact that it is passive 3D and wouldn't mind the curve. Still the same stuff out there when I google it.

I have been wondering the same thing. I have owned this set since October and have been pleased with everything about it. The passive 3D is very good. The curve works well and the speaker system is good enough to use for regular tv viewing. I save my home theater system for good movies.

I would love to see pics, if you don't mind. I'm curious about dimming on the side edges.

Price just dropped $1000 on Amazon!
EDIT: It looks like the MSRP is now $3000, which is just $500 over the W850a - maybe they are retiring this model?

Still haven't seen it in a store, and it sits with just a single user review on Amazon. Must not be a popular model.

I picked this TV from a Sony Outlet near me that is going OOB for $900. It's brand new, just open box. I was able to grab the 5 year warranty for 150 more. I also grabbed the HTCT550w soundbar for $80, brand new and sealed.

I set it up last night and I am incredibly impressed with the quality. The colors right out of the box are excellent and the speakers sound amazing. The 3D is the best I've seen on the few TVs I've tried it on. I prefer the app interface on Samsung better, but sonys interface isn't terrible.

Overall I'm really happy with it. For 900 I really couldn't go wrong.

Gah, congrats on that amazing deal - so jealous!

More details please - how is screen uniformity? Black levels? Any issues with the curve? Would you be as happy if you paid $3k for it?

Pics would be awesome!

First, forgive me b/c Im not really a AV guru and probably dont have as good an eye as most of you. I just happened to get very lucky. I stumbled across this thread looking for reviews AFTER I purchased the TV. I honestly knew nothing about it when I bought it. I looked up the model, saw it retailed for 3k-4k and said for 900, done deal. Pics are below, but as you can see they are really bad. I just moved into this house and the basement (tv room) has terrible lighting...which isnt necessarily a bad thing for watching TV, but Its bad for taking pics. The pics are from my iphone and the copy of Elysium isnt that great. If you can give me some tips on how to properly take pics of a TV, what content I should use and what you are looking for, I would be happy to do so.

To answer some questions. Would I be happy if I paid 3k... I dont think I would spend 3K on a TV...just not in my budget at this point my life. I was originally looking at the 65" Vizio M series and the Samsung UN60F7500AFXZA - basically something in the 1800-2000 range. The black levels are great. Sometimes, I feel like maybe its a little too black. That might just have to do with calibrating the tv or making some minor adjustments. So far, I basically plugged it and and thats it. As for screen uniformity (I had to look up what this was) I do notice some backlight bleeding, but its not terrible. Im also watching basically in the pitch black, so it really stands out. I have zero issues with the curve. In fact its awesome. Looking straight on, you dont notice the curve at all, however it really does help the viewing angles from the side.

I do have a question - On Amazon, the TV is listed as being 120Hz. However, it has Motionflow XR 480. I was under the impression that if it has XR 480, then it was a 240hz panel. I cant find info on this anywhere

In the pictures you can see the top and bottom appear to be bowing in, as if the middle of the picture is getting pinched. Do you notice that when watching it? I really like the specs of this tv, but am not a fan of the curve
Everything else about it is amazing, such as the IPS panel, glossy coating, speakers, and design. It even has a subwoofer out port.

XR480 = 120hz (4*120hz) like the W850A

XR960 = 240hz (4*240hz) like the W900A

$900 for that thing is crazy

Sony still sells their XR960 on 120hz panels, such as the x900a.
