[MODERATOR NOTE: At the request of X940E owners, this is now an owners-only thread. If you do not own this set or a related Sony model, please respect the wishes of other owners and do not post here until you DO own the set.]

Never started an Owner's Thread, but here's for you fellow 940E Owners! Just got setup today and I have to say, Im blown away! I haven't even touched any picture settings and am on the "Standard" setting...Blown. Off axis viewing is amazing..QLED what? :D. Post any video settings that you've dialed in or any tips you might have. Im new to 4k/HDR, playing HDR content from Amazon, Xbox one, or youtube...I don't see HDR engaging even though it is set to AUTO. It noticeably turns on when I change from AUTO to ON, but I don't know if thats 'forced/simulated' HDR or actual HDR video feed. Im psyched to be a fellow 940E owner, hope everyone is enjoying it!

I'll be watching closely as this "could" be my next TV. I have a 65" ZT60, and at a seating distance of 11 ft I need BIGGER :D Besides, the ZT60 will fit in my bedroom nicely...... as long as I can figure out what to do with the Kuro :p

I've never seen HDR video in person, and we just went from 'auto' to 'on' and Im pretty sure its artificial HDR, but wow My Wife and I are dang near blind, this TV is extremely bright!! Lot of settings I don't recognize from Sonys labeling, need to figure out what triggers HDR content..

In home screen, go to settings > external inputs > hdmi signal format > select hdmi you want to receive HDR > enhanced format....tv will restart now you can receive HDR via that input. Netflix will automatically switch to HDR when watching Marco Polo, Daredevil, Jessica Jones and a few other shows. You must be subscribed to $11.99 Netflix streaming plan to receive 4k HDR. Amazon will also switch automatically with select shows Man in the High Castle but you must select UHD version. They are seperate from regular version....always look for black diagonal banner that says UHD across top box cover of show or film on Amazon. Have fun and enjoy your tv!

I was made aware in the anticipation thread that not only a Sony mount works with this TV (I was aware of that fact :) ) but using the Sony I was able to make it a 0-gap flush mount as planned due to the small footprint..

Curious if you or the other owner can do a zone count. Using the youtube app, search for "avsforum zone counter". Watch the white block from an angle and count how many times you see the zones change. It's fairly easy but good to do it a few times.

It would be great if someone could run the black ball on the white screen video on YouTube. I'm curious to know if the ghosting issue is still aparent on the 940e. Thanks in advance
I'm hoping the X-1 Extreme gets rid of that issue.

I don't think it's the processor. The X-1 is a great processor and on the C-Series it doesn't happen. Has something to do with the design of the set or software

Hopefully we'll get an update from an owner soon as to whether this is still, or a non, issue. ;)

Sure, I'll try that out in a few and report back

I'll try it out, only thing is Im on out of the box settings still, 'standard' looks great, but I know it needs some tweaking. I only say this because my last set, an LG, had lots of issues with ghosting and other weird things that I was able to iron out adjusting the picture enhancement settings. Being new to Sony, Im not exactly sure which enhancements do what yet and I haven't touched them, but I will try that vid..

edit: I did turn CineMotion off and MotionFlow off right off the bat, the Soap opera effect was major in effect.

It's not something that the settings can fix. It's not motion related. The motion on Sony sets is top notch. It's like seeing a trail behind the moving object. On the YouTube app search for black ball on white screen. Just curious if you see the trail of the ball behind it as it moves on the white screen. Thanks

If I did it right I saw 15 columns x 17 rows = 255 zones. I know the 940D was around 120? At first I didn't see it but the white square would brighten every time it hit a new zone if Im not mistaken, if I'm right 255 is the count. I might have missed 1-2 columns/rows, I have 4 kids running around, but I counted at least 15x17.

Yes, Im seeing a trail. I guess its a good thing I don't watch black balls on white screens! lol. Everything I've watched so far has looked amazing, I thought it might be the youtube vid, but alas on my laptop no trailing.

That's unbelievable even the Z series has it. I know you don't watch a blackball on a white screen but it's aparent if you're watching hockey or on commercials with a white background and dark lettering when it slides in and out. I'm not a huge hockey fan but if you are you see it with the sticks, the puck and the players as they move on the ice. I can't believe they didn't fix the issue.

The C had 128, the D had 96, so if it's in the mid-200s, that's very impressive.

And the 75" z9d is probably around 850. But 250 would be outstanding for the price and money saved over the Z9D. Hopefully we can get some others to confirm those numbers. Being 400-500 nits dimmer, having less zones than the Z isn't as big of an issue. I would bet they are very close performance wise minus not being as bright, but 1400 nits or so is still very bright.

At ces, I seen comments about zone count by 2 sony reps, 1 rep said double the zones and the other said it would be more but wouldn't specify.
