Since we have several posters in the Cincinnati area, we can meet at this thread. I will be out of town for the next couple of weeks, but will keep in touch by laptop.

My Tosh 3000 has been returned due to an audio problem. I am now using the RCA 100 receiver until mine is returned. The RCA does not pick up WCPO's signal. The Tosh had a reading in the 40s. What do others receive?

The HDNET showing of "At the Waters Edge" and Tall Stacks was enjoyable. HDNET's audio seems several decibels below other broadcasts. Anyone also notice that?

I still have to catch "Water's Edge." Been watching MLB on HDNet and that's about it. Going to fiddle with the antenna this weekend to see if I can get Fox out of Dayton. We're dealing with an attic mount, so it won't be easy. Plus, I'm in Florence. Need to borrow a DBT from someone just to see if it'll work any better. I can probably hide that one outside without drawing the ire of the Neighborhood Association.

I'm assuming on your DST-300 you are obtaining your signal strength off of the SD channel??? The DT channel locks in and shows a consistent 100 signal strength. If someone could enlighten me on another method of determining your HD signal strength I would certainly appreciate it.

Thanks - Rob

I live in a sub-basement apartment, so OTA and Satellite signals are not accessible by me at the current time. There is no roof or attic antenna in the building. Radio Shack double bow-tie also did not help. For this reason (and not wanting to spend $ on a new STB), I am quite interested in when Time Warner is going to offer digital feeds.

For a while (from about August last year to this past Christmas) they were passing through the channel 9 digital feed but that disappeard. I have tried multiple ytimes to get them to let me know when they are going to offer it, but only get the stock "We will contact you when they are ready" response. I even used a thinly veiled threat to switch to directv and it did not work! The website simply says coming soon.

Anyone know anything?

Thanks,

Bryan

PS: I have a first generation Sony direct view set, the kw34HD1.

The audio on HDNet is considerably lower than other stations. There's nothing like the rude awakening you get if you forget to lower the volume before turning the channel !!

I, also, haven't had the opportunity to catch "At the Waters Edge" yet, however, I see is going to be repeated this weekend.

Any word on a timetable for our local Fox affiliate passing on HD ?

I live in LEBANON and get HDTV from TWC on a SA2000HD BOX. At present I receive HBOHD, SHOHD, CH.9HD, CH12HD. I'm getting over the air CH5HD, AN FOX CH19HD with my Samsung srt150.

The hold up with TWC was getting the SA2000hd box. THEY HAVE HAD 1 to 2 THOUSDAND people on the waiting list. Now that their shipping the new SA3500hd box in larger NO'S the list should get shorter.

I compared OTA reception on my sirt150 to TWC and the quality seems to be equal.

Bryan..

In your case, I'd give one of those regular old rabbit-ears arrangements a try. Borrow one from someone and see if you can get channel 9. If so, you should be able to get WCPO-DT, since it's a VHF signal (Ch 10) with roughly the same coverage area. As for the UHF band, you'd just have to fiddle with it. But one's better than none until TW starts local pass-thru.

Bryan,

I'm in Forest Park and I got my SA2000HD early January of this year. I had been on the waiting list since last year March timeframe! When I got my new box I noticed that HBO On Demand was no longer working. I called Time Warner and they told me that the HD stuff is still considered in beta stage. Their website has said 'HDTV Coming Soon' for ages.

I currently receive SHO-HD, HBO-HD, WKRC-HD and WCPO-HD. Every once in a while I turn on my DTC100 to see what I can pick up with that but I seem to have severe multipath issues and never had any luck to get much of anything OTA other than WKRC.

I'm a current Dish Network subscriber who has just purchased my first HDTV. I want to upgrade my receiver to the Dish 6000, and I want to get the OTA tuner module with an appropriate antenna. I'm located in Hamilton, so I think an outdoor antenna will probably be required.

I'm looking for a recommendation on a good dealer/installer who can sell and install the whole works. Responses appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah, you'll need an outdoor antenna. With a rotor, most likely, so you can get both Detroit and Dayton. Sorry I can't help you with an installer.. Do most everything myself. It's not particularly difficult and there are a ton of us on here who can help you.

Detroit???? Are you kidding?

Really, my main concern is solid reception of 5,9,12,14,19,48, and 64 (plus their DTV signals). I wouldn't bother with an outdoor antenna if this could be accomplished with an indoor one. But, based on my experience in the past with rabbit ears, I think an outdoor model is needed even for Cincinnati stations. Any suggestions on models? Is a rotor really necessary?

Thanks for your reply

LOL!! My bad. CINCINNATI and Dayton. Was on the phone to a buddy of mine in Detroit as I was typing that. Lived there 8 years, myself. Sorry about that.

Everything you mention is Cincinnati so you probably won't need the rotor. Although, Cincinnati's FOX digital is screwed up at best and WXIX's management is totally unconcerned with it to the point that if you call or write them, they get angered. They'll take the widescreen feed and shrink it narrower than 4:3. We call it "weirdscreen." It's 9:16 instead of 16:9. Unwatchable. Hopefully, Dayton's Fox affiliate will do better.

JHolcomb - You most likely will be able to receive all the Cincinnati UHF DTV stations with a Radio Shack indoor double bow tie. I'm on the north side (shadowed side) of a ridge in Fairfield not all that far above river level. I picked up a DBT just to try out and it works quite well.

Don't forget that WCPO-DT is VHF channel 10 which doesn't fare well on the DBT.

Also I noted that you included channel 14 in your list - I both WPTO 14, Oxford and WPTD 16, Dayton are part of Dayton's "Think TV" cluster.

JHolcomb - I live in the Fairfield Township area and currently utilize a Radio Shak Double Bow Tie Antenna to receive over the air HD. I have the antenna inside and easily receive all of the stations that you listed in addition to the 4 KET transmissions. Hope this info helps.

I, too, live in Lebanon. I've been told by some higher ups at TWC that they do have 1 to 2 K people on the waiting list, but they had recently RECEIVED 2K SA3100HD boxes. I switched from our beloved competing local cable to get on said waiting list. My guess with the 2k boxes is that the time I will wait is primarily the due to the order (from the waiting list) of the install and the number of people who can install.

Richard-S, what is your location and type of antenna. I may be blocked by a hillside to receive OTA from Cinci.

My antenna is a long bar type with voltage amp. Don't remember the brand name. My family room/home theater has a upper loft and my antenna sets on that shelf inside.

I'm North end on town

Are you sure that TWC got 3100HD boxes in ? I got an HDTV box at the beginning of the year but it was an old 2000HD. I wonder if the new 3100HD fixes the issues the 2000HD box has with HBO on demand.

Marci,

The guy assured me they were 3100HDs. He confirmed that TWCinci was not interested in a full purchase (last year) of the 2000HDs as they were just regular 2000s hacked to pull down the HD and proved (through Cinci test-marketing) to be too buggy to order in large volumes. Hence the wait for the 3100HD. Scientific Atlanta just reported in another link that they've shipped 38,000 of the 50,000 ordered by TWC (though that number may be the total number shipped to all its customers)
