For owners and non-owners alike.

Non-owners are always prospective owners, and they too should have a place to consume first-hand observations and the musings of the well informed (one can but hope).

At this time there are two other GoldenEar threads at AVS Forum, with an unsatisifed request to merge the threads or create an "owners" thread.

And since it's easier to get forgiveness than permission, I thought I'd take matters into hand.

Addtionally, I thought I'd kick things off by posting links to the extant professional reviews.

Golden Ear Super Sat 60's LCR - not happy
In my home theater I am using Golden Ear Super Sat 60's for my LCR front stage. I am pairing them with 2 SVS PB2000 subs. I have an Anthem MRX 720 but using 3 Outlaw mono block amps for the LCR. I have to say that I am not that please with the Golden Ears speakers. Not sure what it is but they sound too high or tinny and it does not sound natural. They just do not seem to sound so good. I have ARCed my system several times and the LCR gets set at 120Hz. Was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on these speakers. I am most likely going to sell them.

I have a friend who is a Paradigm dealer and am looking at the Millenia 30 reference speakers to replace my Golden Ears. Anyone have any thoughts on them? Is there something better that I can get in that price range. All thoughts and comments are appreciated. I am looking to do this in the next month.

The only obvious thing I see is the crossover seems a bit high compared to what the manual recommends (100hz):
Maybe manually set 100hz and see how that sounds?

Hi, and a few questions that I did not read any answers in the review.

Can the T-Ref be bi-amped?

What amp are people using to push these new speakers?

What would Sandy consider to be the best amp for this speaker.

I am an avid home theater guy and am looking to upgrade from my Triton Ones. Love movies and concert blu-rays.

I have the XXL center channel and find it to be not as clean as I would like.

I have 2 choices, one to go from the Ones to the Reference

or

found some used B&W so wish to

Upgrade Mains from Golden Ear Triton One to B&W Nautilus 800
Upgrade Centre from Golden Ear Supercentre XXL to B&W HTM1D

The challenge, in my eyes, with the 2nd choice is that I am using the Classé 5300 and would bi-amp my front L & R but only have 1 channel left to bi-amp the centre, so would have to get another 3-channel amp to run my lower part of the centre + my 2 rears, as I did not bi-amp the GE Ones, but feel that I should do for the Reference.

The B&W may be a little large for my room (14.5' x 23') but I will have front speakers that will be much more crisp than the Ones that I have now.

Hope to hear from a few GE fans very soon so I can make a decision

Does it make sense to upgrade a pair of Triton1s to the R version?. Second, if one's upgrades can it be done at home or ship them to GE

Not really it’s just a great sounding option.

It is tough to get in wall demonstrations. If you sell the demo the next in wall may be bigger or smaller. If you sell the demo floor standing speaker you just bring in the next one.

Most in wall demo spaces are custom built rooms with AT screens has been my experience.

I’ve got customers using 7 ch bed layer in walls using the Invisa SPS. Then some just for LCR

That’s awesome!

I’ve been trying to demo various speakers for my theatre, lately. I like the sound of the Goldenear One.Rs and the Reference but can’t fit them in the space. So I started looking at inwalls instead.

How is their output? Like SPL at say, 12ft listening distance. Also, being small drivers, do they have any slam at all, like any impact from gun shots and the like?

Follow up to that, do you think they would be able to blend well with 18” subwoofers at an 80hz crossover? Or would larger driver speakers be ideal.

Never measured SPL but I’d guess 85 - 90dB is easily attainable. That’s quite loud btw. High end in walls tap out at around 100dB or a bit above.

You can always cross the sub at 100hz

What’s your budget?
Budget would allow for up to 15 of them in the system.
Planned to use an AVM 70 and 3x MCA 525 Gen2s.

I could try a 100hz crossover. I’ll have 2-4 18”s up front, and 2-4 18”s in the back. So localization shouldn’t be an issue.

I’m currently also considering the triad silver LCR. Can’t demo those either so it’s been a mission.
