It is possible, but works with some AVR's and electronics, and not with others.

The UB-820 is not *officially* listed as supporting Atmos as a device, by Netflix, and yet many of us do in fact get it. I have a Marantz SR7010, and it gives me 4k/HDR and Atmos when available. A friend had a somewhat older Yamaha AVR and didn't get Atmos, but when he upgraded to a newer model, he did.
I have an Anthem AVM60, and I get 4K/HDR from Netflix, but I haven't seen Atmos on any of the shows that are listed as having it. My ub820 firmware is up to date. I don't know why that would be.

As I said, it's hit or miss on this particular thing. Atmos is not officially supported by Netflix for the UB-820, that is, it's not on their list of supported devices, so basically it's a matter of luck if your electronics happen to work with it. In this sense, since it's not supported by Neflix, it's more unexpected for one's AVR to *have* Atmos than to not have it.

AFAIK, there's nothing you can do about it. It doesn't say anything negative about your Anthem electronics. Perhaps this will change over time, but for now, it is what it is.

Yeah, IMO if you're not utilizing the extra features of the Oppo but really just focused on shiny disc playback, it's a no-brainer to swap the 203 for the Panny UB820 which should net a healthy profit given the ridiculous used market prices on Oppos.
Could not agree more, if you are not using the features of the Oppo, dump it now while it is worth something ;)

A friend is coming by to load curves on his JVC, do the curves work with all models that have the three custom settings like the RS400
Its a x790
My understanding is yes. Your friend has a built in JVC Gamma curve instead of defaulting Gamma D like us. When I was poking around those threads to see if the new built-in JVC curve fixed all the issues I noticed they were also loading custom curves.

I am not sure if they are using the same curves (like JAVS curves) or something else. I also don't know if it defaults to the JVC curve (like ours does to D) or if it will automatically switch to the loaded custom one. Also, pretty sure the actual PC software they use is different too.

I think the general consensus is the built in JVC Gamma curve is good but the custom/premade curves are better. Either way, the difference will not be as big as it was for us. Gamma D was so very awful.

Yes, i agree, Gamma D not so good :0/

My RS looks damn good, theres a bit of fiddle’n around when getting it setup, but once locked on, its solid.

The JVC curves look acceptable to him
They are not bad, depending on the screen size. You can fine-tune them as shown in the link in my signature.
My screen is 100x42 looked like mine with 60nit curve, theres a scene in Prometheus in space, omg the inky blacks were rediculous, so cool.

Hes gotta build his room now Lol, he gotta a great deal on the PJ before the room was built, we were just checking out the HDR viewing, very happy

Maybe a stupid question (but hey, what can I do)
Does it matter if I turn on Dolby Vision or HDR10 in my Panasonic UB9000 if the projector doesn't support it?
That is, will it have a negative impact on image quality?

Anyone have hi heat issue with their 400 on High lamp power....
Screen goes blank, functions dont work while screen is black.

I have a vaulted ceiling which really traps hot air well
This is the first such issue I can recall reading. If it is due to heat, you might try high altitude mode. That moves a lot more air through the projector.

Good luck

Hi,
Need your helps!
I am using AVS calibration for 4k hdr(uploaded bt2020 and new gamma) and I am very happy with this calibration,
Now I start watching Tv shows in Netflix, Narcos, Money heist in Ultra Hd(not hdr)
And it’s look like the image is not bright enough...
There is a good calibration for 4k Tv shows that shows better colors and bright image?

In another case my projector is new(50 hours lamp) and I am thinking to buy spyder 5 and make auto calibration do you recommend to do that? I will see a significant improvement?

If you’re happy with 4K HDR then the TV should be bright enough. HDR needs at least double the peak luminance of SDR to look good.

What Picture Mode are you using to play the SDR (non-HDR) shows? Specifically, what’s the iris setting?

Autocal will correct the gamma droop (if any), but is unlikely to make the projector brighter, at least not visibly.

Your iris is at -10. Switch to manual, open it up to the desired brightness, and the put it back to Auto2 (if you prefer).

Also, unless you have done instrumented calibration, I would turn colour management.

Maybe I didn’t explained myself so well, I don’t have a problem with the lumens, the image is bright enough but the picture looks very white and the colors looks very dry...
Yeah I’m always changes the iris to manual and change between 0-12 depends to the content but the picture still looks very white and the colors looks very dry...

How did you do your HDR calibration? The AVS disc is for SDR only.

I’m not exactly sure what you mean by white and dry.
