Besides the Darbee and dual hdmi's, what other step ups over the 83 are there?

The BDP-83 was OPPO's first generation player and the -103 is the third. We don't have a document directly comparing their features, but if you can combine these two lists you can get an idea:

Cool how does it look better I assume

There are large matters of taste and personal preference involved.

To me: it is not an essential upgrade, but I have a tiny viewing area, sitting about 7ft from a 46" screen. The most enthusiastic Darbee proponents are front projector owners with large screens.

I tend to be skeptical of video enhancements, but at HiDef 35% it is unobjectionable. Unlike previous enhancement techniques, the Darbee does not destroy the fine detail in a image. The effect is hard to see on the S&M luma zone plate, for example. (In HiDef mode, at least; FullPop and Gaming may be different).

I have a ten foot wide screen 2:35 aspect ratio and sit 10 feet away do you think it is worth trying?

OPPO offers the usual 30 day return. I suspect you will not rest until you try it. Or: you could borrow someone's Darblet and see if you like the effect on your existing gear.

When will the BDP-105D be available?

I hate to replace my BDP-105 with a BDP-103D and then upgrade it again next month.

There has been no indication there will be such a thing. OPPO might want to see if this one sells first.

I asked the same questions, OPPO told me no plans yet! If the 103D sells like hot cakes then they might do a 105D :) Speculations!!

^ Basically all the changes that are in the regular 103, as well. Substantially faster performance, updated decoders, and many more supported media file formats come to mind. If you use the Analog outputs the 103 is also a significant step up from the 83 (with the 105 being even better). And then of course the 103/103D/105 also include INPUTS -- ways to pass content from other source devices THROUGH the OPPO, used as sort of a mini-preamp-processor for audio and video.

The 103 and 103D will also play 3D discs, which the 83 will not.

Yes, the BDP-103 and the BDP-103D will coexist. Some people do not want the Darbee and it makes the player $100.00 cheaper.

Cool. Might even be a move down the road to have the more expensive $599 model and then shoot for a $399 model. Might help some sales.

Likely won't happen. OPPO has never done any price reductions on their products and yet another revision for their line of players would not be expected at this time. OPPO has traditionally shown new product at CEDIA, so any additional product announcements for their current line of players is unlikely.

Understood, i kinda meant with the next refresh. I dont expect Oppo to drop the price on a 103, nor should anyone else.

The HDMI input on the 103 will not pass lossless audio. Does the 103D have this same limitation?

Actually the 103 *CAN* accept high bit rate audio on its HDMI Inputs -- as multi-channel LPCM. The limitation is that it can't accept Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD MA Bitstream input. (If you try, you will get the lossy "compatibility" Bitstream instead -- traditional DD or DTS.) So your source device would have to do the decode of TrueHD or DTS-HD MA to high bit-rate, multi-channel LPCM.

The HDMI Inputs on the 103D work the same way.

Really, is it the same ting for the 105?  HDMi unable to accept Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD MA Bitstream!!!!!!!! Does that mean that when you play a blu ray in the OPPO it can't pass Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD MA Bitstream? That's surprising!

He's talking about the HDMI inputs.

Not a Blu-ray source.

I'm sure much of this is explained in the manual and in the FAQ.
