For today/tonights break in viewing pleasure I finished up "The Night Stalker" series, moved on to Star Wars "A New Hope" and now have started on "Fellowship of the Ring".

Agreed. No slides yet and just using the CNET settings and am blown away so far.

I didn't really have many complaints with my old Sammy (HPT-5064) but now I can't believe how much better sets have gotten. Glad I got one of these before they are all gone.

Agreed. I just ordered the P65ST60 and that's my plan. Turn it on, check for issues, then shut it back off and let it warm up before I get started with the actual watching / break in.

Hopefully before any condensation forms inside.
Should be fine but be quick.

Oh I will be. I wanna be as quick as possible. All I wanna know is that it actually turns on before I sign for the delivery. I don't really need to check anything else, do I?

You May want to check for microcracks when off. Take a flashlight and let the beam go across the screen(parallel), a crack will tend to stop the light. I'd do it after the power cycle.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll make sure to do that!

For those of you who are watching basketball on FIOS and are afraid of image retention, just hit the info button every 10-15mins will bring up a bar which will cover the static box score for about 3 seconds.

I upgraded an old Samsung plasma with the 60st60 and was wondering about the overscan option. When I turn it off I get small black bars on the side of the screen. The same content on the Samsung didn't show the black bars. Is this normal? Also should overscan be left on for the first few weeks? Thanks.

You think 3 seconds every 15 minutes will be a lot of help?

What is the source that youre getting bars on the sides of the screen? You will want to fill the screen for the first 100 hrs or so. Also avoid static images like network logos.

It's the networks fault. Your old tv probably had overscan on by default. I would leave it on for regular tv viewing and turn it off for movies.

Well going by the theory that an orbiter shifts the phosphor cells, this actually covers the whole static logo. Not saying unequivocally that this will prevent IR but in theory it should work? Maybe someone can prove me wrong because I'm no expert on this but it's what I do when I watch basketball...

I am in between the p60 and p50 sizes. The main thing is I haven't heard a lot about the TV. But hear a lot about the 50. Are they basically the same TV?

Not sure what you're asking. What do you mean by P60 and P50 ?

If you mean 60 series vs 50 series, the 60 series in this year's model and the 50 series is last year's model, and is very different (not the same TV).

Sorry, looking at it again I can see why its confusing. I've been looking for a new TV and my brain goes into hyper drive with all the different types and models. I was saying That I was torn in between the 50 and 60 inches. Definitely getting the ST60 model. I was just wondering if the picture is any different with the size change. I see most people talking mostly about the 50 in on other sites.

The source is a Panasonic bdt210 bluray player. It seems to be a few lines of pixels blacked out on the left or right whenever I turn overscan off. I've turned overscan off a few times and it seems to be even between the left and right.

During first few weeks should overscan be on?

After "broken in" overscan should be off from what I've read?
