I hear that...I went through the same thing 2 weeks ago with V1800's thanks to Mike B. he is like that little devil on your shoulder lol. Tom actually saved me from pulling the trigger. Then a couple days later I came to my senses and said to myself "I have plenty of bass, wtf was I thinking".

^^ we have to draw a line somewhere if we want to continue to read threads here at avs. You made a good point of running bass even hotter on Brian's system. How about adding a 8-10db lowshelf which he can with his 3XS's?

That's funny, that little devil is a Mo-Fo!!!!!! Right now he is on my shoulder whispering in my ear saying " you have 2 subs up front and the S3600I is bigger than your XS30SE, we can't have that" DAMN HIM!!!!!!!

Mike you nailed it.

I'm glad you mentioned this and I know exactly what you mean about the "weight" to the S3600's sound (and it being an effortless sound). I've noticed the exact same thing with the V3600 when compared to my XV15se.

Let me note that I'm talking movies here (not music) so this must be below 30 Hz. I'll use the grenade scene from WWZ for an example. When that grenade goes off with the V3600 there is weight to it that goes right into your bones. This "weight" is noticeable even played at low levels...far from the point where the power of the V3600 would be the factor. I think it might be this phenomenon that has made the V3600 so addicting to me. :D
Hop: You are correct about noticing it at lower levels but I notice it with music too, it's like the musician is hitting the drums harder and the guitar/bass player is plucking the string with more force. I have the back wall and corner side wall framed and stuffed with insulation, going to pick up the drywall tomorrow and then give it more listening sessions.

yeah I always know i am not using the headroom...but now all this talk of the dual 18's hitting harder...has the wheels turning (that with a nice little score at the casino has money burning a hole haha)
Brian: My room is around 2300cu and I was going to do 3-4 XS30SE up front. When the S3600I was announced it was a no-brianer for me as it fit my needs. It was the perfect size and gets me into the dual 18 inch woofers with an ICE amp so I went for it. I will probably sell/ trade in my other XS30SE next year for another S3600I and be done with it for the next 10 years.
If you are happy with your 3 XS30's then stay put as they are GREAT subs.

Okay Brian the way I see it you have PLENTY of bass with headroom to spare. You really won't get much out of the upgrade to the S3600. And I really do believe that.

Having said that what fun is winning some extra cash if you don't use it to buy something fun? like a S3600 perhaps? With the made in America ICE amps that are so powerful and efficient that I have mine set just below 9:00 o'clock. And two powerful 18 inch drivers that slam you to the very core of your body and transport you right into the thick of the action.

Oops…Sorry... sorry I turned away for a second and that little devil got a hold of my key board. Just ignore that last paragraph. You're good with three XS30's (probably). ;)

Hop: I have both my subs set to hit 82dbs during the ody xt32 sub set-up process. On the XS30SE I have the gain control around the 2:00 p.m clock position and on the S3600I its barely moved past the off position. When I was running 2 XS30SE ody would set my sub trims at -11 and now with 1 S3600I and 1 XS30SE it sets them at -7, I then boost it 4-5 dbs hot.

Your gain on the S3600 is set one notch lower than where I have both my V3600's set. On my XV15se's they were set between 1 and 2 o'clock so the difference between the ICE and Bash amps is interesting. Audyssey has my trim set at -8.5 db and I'm running 5 db's hot.

My V1800 arrived last night, to replace my ailing eD A5-350, but I had to get up at 4am to catch a flight to San Jose. I will post pics and a review when I get back and spend some time with it. The wait is killing me....

Just a quck update, I was able to spend sometime with my S3600I and it did not disappoint. First off the build quality is top notch, I love the round edges, very classy PSA. I decided to throw some music at the S3600I and it performed like a top notch musical sub should, at first I was thinking there is no way a 18 inch sub should sound this precise with music, no matter the material the S3600I played it accurately with weight that I have never experience before. I then threw some demo movie scenes its way and I was floored by its output and accuracy, every action scene now sounded like it was happening in my room. The S3600I's performance will definitely draw you into the movie. Its output is second to none as action scenes felt like I was involved in a prize fight and my opponent was landing every punch he threw, very impressive. The S3600I will hit and shake you like no other. This sub hits HARD but can also be delicate when called upon.

Anyone looking to upgrade from a XS30SE, I say go for it. The S3600I is a nicer looking sub with its classy rounded edges and its size is impressive but not too big. It's like a XS30SE on steroids, it just hits so hard and its accuracy\ pitch definition on music and movies are very impressive. Congrats PSA you did it again.
Been said by others before and it will be said again.

I HAVE GOT TO STAY AWAY FROM THIS THREAD !!

Thanks to oneeyeblind, Mike Butny and jbrown for your input. As many here know, I returned an S3000i (and really did ... and do ... have regrets). I also don't listen at reference levels, so when I see these types of numbers (c'mon, 130 dB plus from 31 Hz to 100Hz?) I know I won't come close to those levels. I'm shocked anyone could listen at those levels. I'd be lucky to have a sub's output levels near 105 dB from 31 Hz and above (measured at my listening position). Like the S3000i, the S3600i's performance would probably be wasted on me :(.
As you remember, like Mike I was equally impressed going from an XS30 (original edition) to a single S3000i, and now dual S3000i.

I do have to say, I had more significant differences than you did going from one to the other. Maybe its the room, I dont know but for me there was no doubt from day one that the S3000i was staying.

Like you, I dont listen nearly as loud as I use to but when its called upon, the S3000i's do not let me down. Are they wasted? Id rather think they are ready in waiting for when they are called upon.

I do know that the smiles are there every time I listen to music and its a huge grin when watching action movies.

I hear you, gbreda :). The difference between the S3000i and the original XS30 was readily noticeable for music, especially on some critical pieces of music. The S3000i even came very close to the capabilities of my SB13-Ultra for those pieces of music, which I consider quite a feat. So the S3000i did put a smile on my face. It was also noticeable for movies, but since I was trying to incorporate the XS30 with the S3000i, I didn’t get the impression of THAT big of a difference between the two. An audible difference in the lower frequencies was apparent (and what I miss today), but the overall difference made me hesitate. Plus this sub will be used mainly for movies and concert videos. My other room is where I play almost all of my music, and I'm far more critical of music reproduction than movie reproduction. The room size and configuration certainly could have played a part in my situation compared to what you discovered. My rather open 3,400 cu. ft. room has three openings -- a 6-foot opening being the largest. That, and the sound level used (from everything I’ve read, most people play movies louder than I do, and often much louder). However, today I am in a little different position. I am no longer thinking about integrating the XS30 into the mix. Whatever sub I get, will most probably be used by itself and not in a dual configuration. Once I decide upon what subwoofer to buy, I’ll probably give the XS30 to my son if the size of that sub isn’t too large for him (he just moved to a new home and now has more cubic footage to deal with).

Me too Dig. I started with one XV15 and then added a 2nd one and loved them. Never considered sending them back. Until I brought home my first V3600…. Of course that led to a 2nd V3600. :)

The XV15se is a GREAT subwoofer. It took a beast like the V3600 to lure me away form it.
You just won't stop until i'm deaf and broke, will you hop??

sigh.....sad part is i see a perfect spot for a second v3600 just on the other side of the room.

NO! i won't !! i can't....i shouldn't....orrrrrr mayyyyyyybe i should. dammit!
