My impressions on Sony 65W5100:

Well, lets search continue.

I saw 65W5100, at sony style, and was not too impressed either because of not very pleasing contrast and black levels. Nevertheless colors were nice and film like while I thought XBR9 had a red push.

It was close to a XBR9 and size is so much more appealing that it dilutes the advantage of 55XBR8's superior processing
LOL.

But I have decided not to fall for it. 4TH quarter is around the corner, what da heck

would be nice to get a lot more feedback on the sony 65W5100, as if its good or not, and how it matches up with the samsung (over priced) or the new sharp coming out in august
zoro you should make an official sony 65W5100 thread, as they jsut came out a week ago, hardly anyone has one at the moment.

Havn't seen these yet but just so I inderstand. Sony has an LED LCD at 70 inches (MSRP $20,000.00) and a 65 inch LCD. (MSRP $5,000.00) Am I missing something or are those led's really really expensive???

The price difference is more related to the 70" X the 65". I was told the 70" is produced "a la carte' , like a hand-made TV and the production cost is very high. The 65" glass is now being produced in a big assembling line and that's why the price came all the way down. Not sure if we will see a 70" at decent price any time soon.

i got an emaio, sony style outlet for $9,900, now lol.
Nice you started a dedicated thread for the 65W5100.

How far from the set were you standing when you were able to view it?

about 8, usual small sonystyle rooms.
Vanns has it for $200 less than sonystyle and it's a free shipping. Now Im hoping if 1 call or crutchfield will carry it so we can take the 24 mos 0% int that ends 8/31. So that's what about another 5 weeks. Let's all cross our fingers...That's the only way you can afford to get this big whale.

For sure. The Sharp is slightly less, and the Samsung is a grand more. Would be nice to see how all the black levels compare, then color. These are the two things an LCD tv HAS to get right for me.

That might explain the "slightly softer" picture that was described... Depending on what formula you use optimum viewing for a set that size is 8-16 feet. Might be a bit close....
Other than Zoro...has anyone actually seen this TV in action?

I went to my local "Big Screen Store" last night to see if they had one...no dice.

They told me it wouldn't be avail until September and would be $6k.

Idiots...

I think I was the first one to see it and I agree with Zoro:

I saw the TV today at a Sony Store.

I did NOT play around with the settings. First thing I checked (because of what some of you guys said) was, when I walked into the showroom was the color of the "black bars." They were like blueish-gey. Compared to the XBR8 there. And of course, the XBR8 had more vibrant and rich colors.

I also did not like on the 65W5100 that cheap plastic looking frame. It seemed to reflect more light than the XBR8's piano black frame. I know the XBR8 has 2 clear acrylic pieces of plastic, so that helps mnimize reflection.

Dang it, I really want a 65" XBR. I would so not even think twice about it if they had one.

not even about the price?

maybe not from you, but the price that would have to be on a 65" XBR would elicit screams and words that would cause mass lifetime forum bans i'm sure.

^^ Funny.

I spoke too soon TVbc. In my original post, I WAS going to put if the TV was like around $7,000 (prob need be white leds), but I don't know why I did not mention it. Your right, now you got me thinking. Man if a 70XBR7 cost like $19,000, than imagine a 65" XBR.

I hope I do not muddy up this thread with XBR talk. I could take over to the thread '65W5100 no available at Sony Style.'

no i think it's appropriate to bring up the comparison, if only to underscore that the reality of the 65"W5100 , which is at that designation for a reason, both price and tech wise.
