Thanks rwestley.

My initial plan was to go with the 77" LG OLED C9, but the home theater rep convinced me on going with a projector and large screen for a better home theater experience. I really like the size of the image, but I doubt I will ever be happy with projector blacks, so I may return the projector hardware and go back to the C9.
In your situation you might be better off with the LG 77inch OLED TV if you can not have a totally light controlled room. No projector can match the blacks and contrast of the OLED.

4k upscaling

I have the Panasonic 4k blu-ray player (the 820). Should I let the player do the 4k upscaling or let the projector do it?

I would let the projector do it and use the Optomizer for UHD disks with the projector. They Sony has very good upscaling.

EDIT: figured it out. I think you have to turn off HDR on the projector menu before starting. I'm set.

Figured I'd ask: Anyone have any tips for installing the German Gamma Curves?

Everything goes perfectly well according to the video on p. 24, but once the projector is connected, all the drop down menus are "greyed out" and I don't have the option to upload the curves. Not sure if its a software issue or what. I welcome tips.

Anyone have a problem with Prime Video not streaming 4k when using Nvidia Shield? I choose different shows and movies that are UHD but Prime Video shows it streaming 1080p.

Haven't they reduced 4k quality to 1080 for stuff at the moment?

Not in the US. I'm able to stream Ultra HD on my LG TV.
Yes I still can too, but I thought I had read they were turning it down. Guess not. :)

Hi. A quick question for the group. How does 3D work on this projector? Meaning is the resolution still up to 1080p or does the projector do some upconversion. Sorry if it’s a stupid question.

1080p max resolution for 3D, no upconversion.
Thank you.

Hi, had my Sony 295 for a little over a year and love it. I mean sure there are better projectors out there but not at this price point if you want native 4K. My question is in regards to lamp replacement. I use the max setting (don't understand the low output mode- I guess you use that if its for kids or something, but I want the best picture) and already have 1900 hours. I am assuming the life at full mode is half of the 6000 hour limit that is stated on the low output setting? If so, I will be needing a new lamp at the end of the year or early next year. Has anyone replaced the lamp with one of these (PHO LMP-H220 Genuine Original Replacement Bulb/Lamp with Housing for Sony VPL-VW285ES VPL-VW295ES Projector (OEM Philips Bulb)) on Amazon or a bulb that doesn't cost $500 on Sony.com? I've even seen the Sony boxed version for around $350. The only bad thing about buying a replacement lamp early is what if you don't end up using it for 6+ months and it doesn't work once you finally open it?

Also, I have my projector in a Bonus room with some natural light that can't be controlled but at night it looks great! Typically when I am watching anyway. Using a 133" 16x9 SI Slate 1.2 gain and I highly recommend this screen!

The bare bulb is easy to change on this projector. It may take a few weeks to get one but you will save a lot of money. This is the correct one.

Thanks @rwestley! Now, its just deciding whether I buy it now and hold onto it for 8-10 months or wait it out. Hopefully they stay around this price or drop.

I suggest you get one to have it on hand. It takes several weeks to arrive. Put it in immediately when you receive it and keep the old lamp as a spare.
This way you will not be without the projector if the lamp goes bad and you will be sure the new one works.

Great info, thanks rwestley! Do you happen to have instructions for installing the new replacement lamp in the housing?

For anyone who wanders... I would say the bare bulb is about double the difficulty of changing the bulb with housing. To replace the bulb with housing you loosen 3 screws, remove and replace the housing. To replace the bare bulb you loosen 3 screws, remove 3 screws, remove 3 more screws, remove 2 connectors and then put it all back together (with gloves to prevent skin oils from contact with the bulb.) This is from another thread.

There are also a few YouTube videos on bare bulb replacement of other models Should be very easy. Wear gloves and do not touch the inside of the lamp or the life will be shortened.

hi! this might be a silly question but, if i buy an OME bulb but put it in a cheap amazon lamp, will it cause any trouble? I heard that those cheap lamps come with horrible bulbs, but the housing is just about the same.

Why would you want to get the housing and bulb from Amazon? You can put the new lamp in the original housing. If you do want an extra housing you should try the lamp that comes with it if the price is low enough. It might be ok. Some of the non OEM lamps work fine while others are junk. I just found this bulb on Amazon with the original lamp and non OEM housing at a very good price.

Cool! thanks for the reply. thats my plan. I want the extra housing. if i buy the OME bulb from the aliexpress link, and also buy the housing/bulb from amazon, even if the amazon lamp is subpar, I can still install the ome bulb on that housing.
