Update Undo Any Settings?

When I turned on my P65 this morning, it briefly displayed a message that an update had been performed. I assume this is the update being discussed. This is my first update since I set up the TV. Do these automatic updates undo any settings you have made to the set (e.g. color controls, contrast, backlight level, etc.)? I didn't see any obvious changes, but didn't have the time to dig too deeply.

Thanks.

It's a frame rate issue, so a still image isn't going to tell you anything. I don't think I am able to attach video on this forum.
Teddy... what is the 4K Netflix source you are watching? Is it casting from the tablet? Do you have access to a different Netflix 4K device to try, like a Roku or game console?

I'm wondering if you don't like how 24Hz material looks on your set, but you might be ok when it's converted to 60Hz through an external device..?

My tablet won't update. I keep getting status 7 update failed. Does anyone have a copy of the update file on pc?

I was seeing the same thing last night. Tablet said update was available, would try to download update, then say unable to save file. It would then let me cancel or retry. Cancelling would put a system update notification in the status bar that indicated "downloading 0%". Retry would continue the error loop. Tried rebooting once, but that didn't solve it. Will check tonight and perhaps try shutting it down or doing a factory reset.

No, your settings should remain the same. Some people have suggested doing a factory reset after every update but I don't do it myself. I only do a reset if there are weird occurances happening on the set.

I previously never had issues with my tablet. Have never needed to reconnect the Smartcast app, it never rebooted on it's own, and it hasn't exploded even though I've kept it on the cradle for four months now.

But it now just rebooted on the cradle. New update that just installed likely caused it. I do like how much snappier it is but I'm also hoping it doesn't explode.

I have seen things change with the calibration and the settings used for calibration after doing a factory reset from the Smartcast app. I'm a strong proponent.

@mbmcrae

I have identified a bug in the P50's related to enabling Active LEDs.

There is a noticeable "stepping" of the LEDs, when watching
videos that quickly cut from bright to dark scenes.

I own a P-65, P-55, and two P-50's. I am running 3.0.13.5 on all.

This is a problem across a wide number of videos played from a
Nvidia Shield to both of my Vizio P-50's.

I don't see this issue on my P-55 or P-65.

The problem goes away completely by
disabling Active LEDs.

It is a problem with most of the P-50 profiles
(I prefer Calibrated Dark or Calibrated).

But it is less of issue (though still noticeable)
with the Computer profile or by enabling both
Active LEDs and gaming mode while
in Calibrated/Calibrated Dark profiles.

Great post, fluorescent.

You having the P50 and the P65 and an IPS panel, you got
got covered! :D

I wonder how many P-50 owners aren't reporting stuff
because no one with the larger sizes are reporting certain
problems?

P50 owners... shout from the rooftops with your tech
problems, because indeed, some of these are limited to
our size only (being a 60-Hurts Panel).

Yes, the stepping-down or up of fade-to-black or fade-to-white
is quite noticeable on my P50. I'd have to go back in the messages
to see when it first started, but it's been around for while now.

I found it is a Film Mode / Judder setting problem.

With ALZ on, turn off Film Mode with Judder setting of 1-to-10.
I'm using Judder 3. Then try it with ALZ Off.

I tested this for hours using the Disney WoW Disc, playing the
"Up" scene Chapter 5 as it ends.

I've been using ALZ off a lot recently. It has its place and better
light/dark dynamics than with it on.

Does your P50 have the audio dropout and squeal/Beep/tone issue
during any device's audio muting functions?

I've had it since the 3.xx Firmware.

Matt? Anyone from Vizio reading this Thread?
Shall I open a Ticket for service?

Which I might do soon.

Funny though... Nothing in the Vizio manual says anything
about doing Factory Resets or Power Cycling for Firmware
Updates. Oh, the many Vizio owners outside of online message
boards not knowing some problems can be helped or resolved
by a reset.

Squealing?

Sounds like you have interference
at your house or something.

Interference? No.

I've posted many times about this since the 2.2.7.4 Firmware left my P50. This is when it all started. During any audio muting function of the two devices I have hooked up, a Sony DVR and a Channel Master Tuner.

When I pause or FF, aprx 30%-to-60% of the time, instead of dead silence, there's one of three volume levels of a beep-tone. It stays there until I get the DVR back to the play mode. Brief tones are hear when channel-changing on the Tuner. It's been like this throughout the 3.xx Firmware Releases. Beep/Tone/Squeal was not there with 2274 and prior. Other owners have the same or similar BEEP problems, too.

I've PM'd and Tweeted Matt long ago if they are aware of this. No reply to date.

My two P50-C1's are new so I can't compare the v3.x firmware to previous versions.

I tested different judder settings and film mode. Like the Computer and Game Mode settings, auto film mode diminishes how noticeable the fading in/out is when ALZ is enabled. But with ALZ off, the scene cuts are instantaneous like the larger displays.

Based on your avatar, I see you are beta testing 3.0.14.0. So I guess that version didn't fix the issue?

Constant DHCP requests?

This isn't necessarily a problem since I haven't seen any connectivity issues, but has anyone noticed that the Vizio P-series TV sends constant DHCP requests over Ethernet? I have a static IP set on my router via MAC address for both the Ethernet and wifi so it really shouldn't need these constant requests. My DHCP lease time is 24 hours. I guess since I have the static IP set I can just turn DHCP off on the TV and set a static there as well. I have an Asus RT-AC88U router. If anyone has any ideas, they would be much appreciated!

I have a P50-C1, which I purchased from Best Buy back in late November.
Since I first set up the TV, I've found 4k (both HDR and not) content to
be completely unwatchable, with an overly smooth, soap opera-ish effect.

This is with Reduce Judder all the way down (there is no Reduce
Motion Blur Option on this TV as it is 60hz display), Film Mode on Auto,
and tested with Clear Action and Game Low Latency set to both positions.

My favorite shows to watch on TV are the Marvel NetFlix shows... and I
am now on the current firmware (3.0.13.5) and everything still looks the same.
Firmware 3.0.14.0 is now going wide, so you'll get that in the days or weeks
ahead.

Well, if this was your introduction to 4K, the imagery is quite a step up from
720p and notable improvement over 1080i. I can see where such sharpness
and clarity can 'mask' somewhat the motion and look of 24fps content.

However, it should not look 'Soap-ish'. Watch something in 24VF and use
Judder 10. That is Soap, as if it was video-taped or 'live TV'.

Are you saying Judder 10 and 1 and 0 look the same?

I've questioned in the past whether the P50's 'Cinema Engine' is working like
it should or not. (It might have prior to the 2.2.7.4 Firmware.)

Maybe you're not as patient as I am, but I'd wait it out if you can, for a fix...
hopefully.

Do not use Clear Action or GLL unless you game. These will just 'sharpen'
and exaggerate motion/motion issues with shows/movies on the P-50, anyway.
(Ok, maybe with sports.)

I assume your NetFlix viewing is from the Tablet? No AVR or other device?

If you haven't already, leave the Noise Reduction features OFF. Especially
'Block', as having it on, especially the higher settings, will destroy detail and
make faces look like 'smoothed' waxed figures.

Even with the Film Mode on Auto and Reduce Judder on 1-to-3, it shouldn't be
looking 'Soap-ish' at these settings. 4 and 5 and upward, yeah.
