I decided it is time to upgrade my old and loved Sanyo Z4. I know, I know it is old, but so am I guess, and I kind of need your help

I have been out of the projector market for more than 3 years now, and to be honest, I did not follow the forum very much during that time, at least not in this section anyway. So now, I honestly do not know what's good out there, what's not so good and not to bother witt, etc.

I do know that my next projector must be a LCD because I really like lens shift and the flexibility one gets to mount it in different ways. I also know it must be an native 1920x1080 lcd panel.

I would REALY like you to tell me that for under 1200 there is something for me that will be a nice upgrade from my Z4, for example a "1 generation behind" 1080 Sanyo, or something like that. I am also ready to take the plunge and go with another brand if the general consensus goes to a Panny for example.

Now, if there is some options around 2000$ that will be leaps and bounds (and I mean it) ahead of the last 1080 generation, please fell free to speak and be sure I'll listen.

I really need a kind of "fast forward" help, or a top 10 list, if you know what I mean. I am sure that the knowledge found on this forum will be more than enough help to make my choice an easy one.

Regards.

I'm a Z4 man as well. I was looking to upgrade but I opted to buy a new bulb instead. The new Panny 4000 looks pretty awesome for the price. That is the one I was going for. I decided to wait a bit though. I'd like to see if it's worth it to get a 3d compatable model. I'm thinking within the next year or so, maybe Panny will come out with an upgrade to the 4000 that has 3d capabilities.

As for Sanyo, I love my Z4 and was hoping they would come out with a model compatable with the Panny 4000. Unfortunately it turns out that Panny has bought out Sanyo so Sanyo's brand of PJs seems dead.
I had a Z4 for over 3 years and upgraded to an AE4000. Believe me, it is worth it. The only thing I miss is the sliding lens cover that the Sanyos have.

Hi John Meno. Thanks for your response. I'll add this one on my list of options.

Warranty is on the skinny side, but I read a lot of praises about this projector.

Anyone else has an suggestion ?
I was in your shoes about a 3 weeks ago, undecided. After a lot of research, i narrowed my picks down to the Epson 8500 and Pano 4000. I finally decided to go with the Epson but decided against it after hearing about some of the issues. Anyway, I stopped by my local BB and picked up a 8100 for $1450 before a mail in rebate. After getting it home, I was amazed at the difference between this and the Z4. I saved lots of money and will use the savings to go towards a LED pj in the future.

I went from a z4 to a z5 and now a 4k. I don't think you will go wrong with the

panny 4k.

What did you find out about the 8500 that changed your mind? I heard that QC was not that good at Epson and that panel alignment could be a hit and miss.

Is the 8100 better in that matter?

Thanks,

Hi, same dilemma here :)

I want to change my Z4 for the Epson 8100 or the 8500UB.

Here in Quebec, the difference between those 2 is about $1000.

I'm wondering if the difference between the 8100/8500 UB worth $1000 ?

Can anyone tell me about the lens shift of the Panny and Epson 8500 vs the Z4? I use lots of horizontal shift because I mount my pj on a side wall in my theater. My theater is very narrow so it's not like the PJ is way off the screen. Still it's a good amount of horizontal shift. I use some vertical shift as well.
