Hi Guys,

I'm new to these forums and I have a fairly time sensitive question.

I have an old set of Boston Acoustics speakers I got around 2001.

The set includes

2 Micro 90x Satellite Speakers

2 VRS Micro Diffuse-Field Surround Speakers

1 Micro 90c Center Channel Speaker

1 Micro 90pv Powered Subwoofer

I'm moving and finally have a place for a surround sound system again. My receiver was acting up last time I used it, and is too old for HDMI so that will need to be replaced not fixed, but I'm wondering how my speakers would stand up compared to some of the newer speaker sets.

Specifically I have seen the:

SoundWare XS 5.1 Home Theater System

A 2310HTS Home Theater Speaker Package

Unfortunately my budget is fairly constricted so these two are the only ones I could really afford. the Soundware XS 5.1 is much closer to my budget, since I would need a new receiver as well.

I have also considered a

Samsung ht-d65005.1 Channel Blu-Ray system as a cheaper option.

The amount of money I can spend on my receiver depends greatly on how much I spend on speakers. My budget is probably around $800-$900 TOTAL if I need new speakers, I might have to go for the full-box options.

As I see it my options are:

1. Keep old Speakers + Buy a nicer new Receiver

2. New Speakers + New Receiver custom system

3. New Complete System Box Set.

Combined with a new 3D Blu-Ray Player I have maybe 1000-1100

Any suggestions? I know I'm throwing a lot out there but I've seen a lot of great threads here during my research, and thought I'd see if anyone could help me specifically.

Thank you in advance.

I do not consider the Soundware or the 2310HTS, an upgrade.

And, I would not by an HTIB system.

From the $1100 - get a blu-ray player, a refurbish receiver. Then

look to start with a 2.1 or 3.1 speaker system, then save up and

build from there. You can use what you have for surrounds.

Panasonic Blu-ray player

Refurbish receivers are sold here

This is a close out receiver here - Yamaha

Look at some refurbish speakers here - Take a look at the HS series speakers

You may want to look at the Bic F12 sub

Thank you for the info.

Confirmation that I could use my old speakers and just replace the receiver is nice. I will probably hold off for a while on trying to replace the speakers, and just get the nwe receiver now. I'll move on over the the receiver section to get more in-depth device suggestions there.

If anyone else has opinions on my old Boston Acoustics speakers vs newer $300-500 speaker sets feel free to share.
