I’ve narrowed down my speaker list to, two maybe three!

Powered by Yamaha RXA680....

Primarily home theatre use!

Fronts:
* Polk RTAi7 towers — old design but rated highly.

* Elac Uni-fi ub5 towers — modern but power hungry

Runners up were:
*emotiva t1
* q acoustics 3050i towers
* klipsch rp5000f
* svs towers prime $500
*wharfedale diamond 11.3

I’ll be pairing with their respective center channel and rear surround. Obviously a sub.

My big concern is fronts. Especially with my amp which I thought was good enough! But idk now ha. Would using two of the unused channels from 7.1 to bi-amp make difference?

Or should I stick to less power hungry speakers???

Just want a nice full rich sound and strong dialogue.

Based on you wanting full rich sound and strong dialogue and primarily HT use, I'd go with the Klipsch RP-5000's. Klipsch really nailed it with their new reference and rp series. I haven't heard many of those on your list but I have owned Polk RTi A1's and A3's, Q Acoustics 3020, Klipsch r-51, and Wharfedale Diamond 220 and 225 and listened to the Uni-fi towers in store.

The T1's and 3050i's would be great choices too. They all are actually. I just think those Klipsch would be fantastic for home theater.

Thanks for the info!!

I’m almost just about to say forget about it all and head to BestBuy. And get Polk S55 and s35 s15 speakers and call it a day.

Primarily because price (not cheap but close) and I know they will be okay. But I really wanted more premium speakers ha.

I’m just not sure waiting and fear of returning hassle with mail order is worth it.

Oh between posting this I tried the Elac Debut 2.0 6.5 front and centers - sounds decent actually but I assume due to my Yamaha I need to really crank towards -20db to get decent output. Plus they are soo big and boxy

Sigh

I’d take a chance with the rp5000f but concerned of that klipsch horn curse. And I’d try the q acoustic speakers but worried about dialog on the center only being 4” and dual drivers.

The RP280F I have sound awesome. I think they are very balanced and don't take much power to drive them. The highs are not harsh from the horns. I thought the same as you klipsch horn thing. But was pleased when I got them, best speakers I have ever owned. My Denon is only 70watts a channel , gets very loud. .:D

The Polks being power hungry is more of a concern if you're running the full range. With a subwoofer crossed over at 80hz your AVR can get those louder than you think. To be on the safe side, get an AVR with pre-outs which would allow the addition of a seperate power amp. You'd have to step up to the Yamaha A-860 model or get a nice Denon X3500H. You can also save some additional funds with a refurb from A4L.

The Klipsch RP are very efficient and wouldn't require that much power to drive. They're a very good option for an HT setup.

Well it's nice there are so many decent choices, but also easy to get analysis paralysis. The Polk Signatures are decent but a little bright imo. Of course that's how they designed them, just like the RTi series.

I wouldn't worry one bit about the Klipsch being a horn. They aren't as in your face as the older RB series. I highly doubt you would end up wanting to return them. Or the Q Acoustics. I'm also pretty sure you'd be happy with the Polk Signatures but don't buy them if you're always going to be wondering if you should have gotten something different and regret the purchase.

You could always buy just the front L and R from Polk and order from another manufacturer and compare them in home side by side. Then return the loser and order the center/surrounds.
