Not sure if anybody can help on this, but I've got the entire catalogue of The X Files on DVD and as I'm not working at the moment, have started to watch from the beginning.

I'm noticing on most eps the screen freezes and the only thing that will work is to turn off the Blu Ray player and turn back on. When playing through again, it works fine, so it's not that the disc is faulty.

I bought the discs ages ago and am only just watching them, so I can't really take them back to the store. Can the older formats of DVD's cause problems with newer Blu ray players as my old DVD player (with USB) used to have problems with the AVI files of True Blood title sequence, so I'm wondering whether new players can be funny with older discs?

Thanks in advance

It could be that the lens in your player is getting dusty.

You might try getting a can of pressurized air to gently blow into the player compartment.

Alternatively, you might consider getting a Blu-ray player cleaning disc. Do not get a DVD cleaning disc. The optics in a BD player are closer to the disk than the optics in a DVD player and can be damaged by using the wrong type of cleaner.

Or you could consider having your player cleaned professionally.
