Ok, here is what happens when I split my LFE (@ 80Hz) from the Onkyo 797 Rec. One line to HSU VTF-2 Sub, the other to an old 100watt per ch. Technics TX-DS530 Prologic Rec. w/EQ to drive 50watt Aura pro bass shakers (2 per ch. wired in series for 8ohm load).

Houston, we have a problem! The VTF-2 sub still works fine but... No readable signal to Technics --spectrum analyzer shows nothing... Volume to max yield little to no sound from shakers... Switch to a full range signal and shakers come to life, however, vocals are audible --don't want that. Tried using one line from Onkyo LFE to Technics --no luck...Tried Onkyo LFE @ 100Hz still no luck.. Pushed Onkyo LFE level to +3db and up --again no luck... Now, these bass shakers are rated 20-80Hz usable freq. ,and 40Hz resonance freq. What gives?

Is the Technics only able to take a full range signal-in (Tape, CD, VCR all had the same result)? Could it be the shakers can't really do 100Hz and below? --surely that can't be it.

I plan to send test tones to the bass shakers for frequency analysis.

Update: Test tones used 10Hz to 100Hz @10Hz increments. Shakers best between 30-80Hz (25Hz may be usable for some), no response at 10Hz. Bass shakers are functioning near to spec.

Come on guys, what do you think is wrong, any recommendations?

Thanks for your help, sWaRm

The technics may or may not be able to act like an amp, in the end, its still a receiver. If your doing everything correctly, the technics may have a problem taking inputs lower than 100hz.

Hmmm, when I sent the Technics the low frequency test tones burned to CD via the Right channel of one of the Onkyo's outputs... to the Technics cd, tape, or vcr inputs... the tones are heard/felt from the shakers.

Could the Onkyo LFE lineout voltage be too low for the Technics cd, tape, or vcr inputs. I'll have to pull out the manuals and check the specs.

Don't give up on me guys, ALL opinions are appreciated.
