is there any point in hooking up an older 480p television with only component inputs to a computer? my computer is fairly recent and resides in the living room, near the TV. the things i want to do:

--use my computer instead of the tv's line double to maybe improve the appearance of regular cable television

--use my computer as tivo to record regular cable

--maybe less do-able, but if possible, maybe even record the the HDTV i get through comcast cable (currently watched at 480p through the component inputs on my TV, which looks surprisingly good)

--use my tv as a computer monitor

any of this practical? cost-prohibitive? can a 480p television act as a competant computer monitor? what computer resolution does 480p translate to, 800x600? even lower?

thanks for reading, and hope somebody can help.
