I bought Grand Prix on HD DVD. Awesome picture and cinemetography.

What is the oldest film in HD and how old is it?

More importantly how does it look?

Any chance of War and Peace in HD? or Ben Hur?

haven't seen those yet and I think my HD ADD might ruin them for me.

I was going to say robin hood as a guess. But it seems it is. Anyway a very great looking movie.

After seeing it in HD all I can say is they sure have good dry cleaners in those days as their cloths are always in perfect condtion so bright and clean

Its worth it to just watch the few extra bug bunny daffy duck cartoons.

awesome I've never heard of this one? The only version I know of has Dave Chappel.

I'll pick this up with Forbidden Planet.(guess the warner 20% code is good enough)

Why no Gone with the Wind in HD?

Would anyone else want to see it?

In my book this is the "definitive" Robin Hood.

Thanks for the heads up...I am picking that up.

Hey how old is Casa Blanca ? It's pretty amazing as well in it's own right, especially when they show you the unrestored clip on the extras.

Adventures of Robin Hood is 1938

Casablanca is 1942

(And both of them look fantastic on HD DVD... and have a pile of great extras.)

Just to clarify (because Damed's response is incorrect... or at least worded so it seems so)...

Robin Hood is *not* "colorized" (ala Ted Turner taking a B&W film and coloring it).

Robin Hood was shot in color. It was never a black and white film.

shadowrage... based on this comment and the following one that you made about Universal:

Yeah but the stuff in their catalog isn't worth the time to print.

I think you have a lot of movie watching ahead of you.

The Adventures of Robin Hood is an all-time classic and currently sits at #148 on the IMDb Top-250.

And Universal has hundreds of classic films that I assume you've never seen or heard of... Vertigo/The Birds/Psycho and other Hitchcocks, The Sting, Double Indemnity, Brazil, Universal Monster pictures, To Kill a Mockingbird, etc. etc. etc.

From your comments in this thread, it seems like you're seeking out the classics. That's great. I hope that helps to widen your view a bit so you aren't so dismissive of a studio like Universal that has thousands of films (and hundreds of bonafide classics) in their library.
