"I am very impressed with MC on how they handle rebates"

Yes and no for me. They made it write over the phone, but they screwed up which necessitated the phone call. They claim my UPC and rebate form didn't match. BS, the offer # between the 32" and 42" on BF were just one digit difference. Their employee whom entered my info fat fingered in the 32" offer code.

Did anybody every reached customer service of Olevia?

I had been on hold for 2 one hour sessions already without reaching anybody. They keep telling trash like your email will be answered within 24 hours. But my several emails never got replied yet.

Now i am kicking my ass for going with this cheap brand from Microcenter where you cannot return after a very short period of time. No olevia or syntax for me no more. No matter how cheap it is.

Any suggestions to contact olevia? Thank you.

I recieved a replacement TV from Olevia for my DOA one through their Customer Service line. I typically got to a person after a 10 min wait (maybe as high as 20 sometimes, but often less than 5 as well). Their exchange service could have been faster, but it did it's job. I always dialed their customer service line rather than the technical support one.

1.866.9OLEVIA (965.3842) and select the customer support option. I have noticed that their hold system is odd in that it sits there silently, and when it rings to transfer you, sometimes it rings 30 times or more. Don't hang up, it will get you there eventually.

I have called about three times with a couple of setup questions. Each time my call was answered in about 15 minutes which is par for many consumer electronics companies.

What exactly is your problem? Are you calling tech or customer support?

Microscenter has a very good reputations and same returns policy, if not better, than most sellers. Olevias don't have any more problems than comparable units. Indeed there are many threads here of $2000 42" hdlcds with horrendous problems and companies stonewalling. Lots of problems with much more expensive mitsubishi's and sony's. (I've dealt with problems with hdtvcs from sony and mistsubishi and I prefer Olevias service to either.)

My TV is making this poping/cracking sound when turning on and off, for 20 minutes or so each time. I am trying to contact Olevia to get some help.

Actually my first call was on hold for 48 minutes then I hang up because it's on my cell phone. Then I tried several times for about 10 minutes each without gettting to anybody. This morning I called from office phone and waited about 50 minutes and didn't get to anybody. So I hang up again.

Sounds like I am extremely unlucky.

I believe post #621 had this popping issue. You might want to talk to them to see what they figured out. I bought one from Target and have had it for about a month. Great TV as far as I am concerned. Xbox 360 works great. Using Charter HD and I am impressed other than the cost of their service. Anyone suggest I dump cable and go dish. I have not updated the firmware and haven't looked to see what I have.

I finally got an email response from Olevia on a question I had sent on the 10th of this month. I didn't get an answer to my question but got a statement asking if anybody had contacted me regarding my original question. The tech responded to my original email stating the problem. Why couldn't he just have answered my question instead of asking if anybody had called or emailed me with an answer? I told him basically not to bother. This tv really doesn't mean anything to me, it's just a training set to learn some of the ins and outs of HDTV. Besides, I think I can get better answers to questions right here on this forum than from them.

I purchased the 542i from Microcenter on black Friday and here are my thoughts.

I had the backlight issue also but I decided the 542i was worth keeping due to the price. I am glad I did not return it because the backlight issue has slowly gone away and now I am very pleased with how dark images look.

The picture quality is awesome especially since I have the hd channel tier from my cable service. The regular tv channels look good but the hd channels just blow mw away with the oustanding picture resolution.

The speakers really are poor on this model but it was fixed with the addition of an onkyo s790 system that I purchased refurbished for $289.00 shipped and no tax.

I am extremely pleased with my overall system now especiall for the price.

That's the 64,000 dollar question. I don't believe olevia has one. Programmable remote might be the only answer for now.

Go with the 880 Harmony. It is by far the greatest remote. Pricey? yes.. but when you get it you will say to yourself how did I go so long without it. It is amazing. Get one on ebay for like $150. Retail stores are $225ish.

And if that's too much sticker shock, the 2nd Greatest Remote Evar in my opinion is the Harmony 550. Could be had online for down to $70, I think. Different shape, not quite a featureful as the 880, but still miles ahead of other learning remotes.

I can assure you that there is nothing wrong with your set as it's normal. Mine does that too - it's caused by the expansion/contraction of components inside the TV as it warms up or cool down.

My replacement 542i picture (i.e. Backlight) seems to be fine now. Now that it has been used the initial spots have mellowed. But since this is probably not a new unit, there is a place on the black frame, towards the bottom of the picture that I initially thought was glue leftover from the taped down plastic sheet that they ship over the screen. I am now thinking that it is actually a place where the tape may have removed the dull finish and exposed a shiny surface. I reason this, because at a suggestion, I place a little more scotch tape over the area and pulled up some black. EIther the factory was trying to repair it with black or the area was giving me some more black surface. Not sure what is happening for sure, but will call and ask how this can happen, and what I can do , if anything. At least it isn't the picture, and its something that only matters if I want to make it a big deal.

It's possible that your set is indeed new. I'm pretty certain the plastic bezels are shiny black initially, and then have a matte coating sprayed on. If there were any oils on the surface of your bezel during the spraying, then the coating did not adhere properly and came off with the tape.

That said, most people are exchanging at least one (some five or more) LCD of any make to find a keeper. It seems to be the current state of the technology and the business. I had two 542i before deciding to abandon the brand. These returns are not going in a dumpster, it stands to reason they are going back to consumers at some point.

If the set pans out in every other performance aspect, maybe it's something you can learn to deal with. After all, what if the next set Olevia gives you has a lighthouse beacon in the middle or corners of your backlight or a bunch of stuck pixels, and you wish you had kep the set that suffered only from a cosmetic defect?

I was wondering if anyone here would be able to help out a completely desperate person with a rebate problem on my 542i I purchased at MicroCenter on black friday.. I received a postcard in the mail a few days ago telling me I didn't send in the UPC off the box for the $200 rebate when I indeed did. I then started to look around for the copies I made and found everything but the copies of the barcode.. I normally keep every single electronic box I ever buy I but this one was the first one I threw away as well.

If there is anyone here who could e-mail me a jpg or pdf of their copy of the barcode I would be forever grateful. I know this might not be the right place to ask this but I don't know what else to do and don't want to give in to their games and loose my $200.. Please PM me if you can help.

Thanks so much!

What is the big deal about this remote? I bought the All For One 8820 (learning remote) and I can do pretty much everything with my TV, Comcast Motorola STB and combo DVD/VCR. I bought two reconditioned online for $11.00. and bought 2 more from Ebay yesterday for $13.00.

Might want to take a look at this remote the cost is more than the model I bought, but the keypad lights up on this model.
