I was wondering if the 3 types of video out modes, all produce a picture at the same time?

Yes. All audio and video outputs are live at the same time.

Good to know. So if you have component and DVI hooked up simultaneously, I assume component will output 480i, even if DVI is set to 720p, e.g.?

This would allow me to easily compare my Fujitsu plasma display's ability to upconvert 480i with the upconverting circuitry in the Oppo by just switching inputs on my display. Do I have that right?

Thx.

More than upconverting will be compared:

The 480i component is the MediaTek output

The 480p/720p/1080i DVI is the Genesis/Faroudja output

Agreed. It will be interesting to see how the MediaTek MP2 conversion coupled with the AVM II processor deinterlacing and upconversion compares to the Genesis solution.

On paper, the AVM II solution has the advantage of one less rescaling to get to my Fujitsu's native 768p resolution. I wish the Oppo had tunable DVI output so I could truly compare apples to apples.
