Well yeah, i don't switch AV during playback of anything so that HDMI Issue don't concern me. I've had 0 trouble with this player and really don't care about waiting 50 sec for the movie to start. It give the time to my projector to heat and light up so...

I'am not saying that it don't have issues, it's just doesn't concern me that much..

how does anything in that article equate to "hating"? This is just inflammatory and immature. You discredit us all by being so unfairly antagonistic
At first I thought they were simply telling us how it was, and I was willing to listen, but WOW they are doing EVERYTHING they can do to trash this medium... I hope they are this "Fair" when BD comes out with its issues... and it certainly will.... does BD even have a working demo??

Your right hate is a strong word and I certainly dont want to antagonize anyone. HOWEVER they have weekly since the launch had something ill to say about anything and everything HD, I see you are new around here posting do a search on here and you will see there is a LOT of negative press from CNET about this product and 99.9% of it is undeserved (if you ask a lot of the people around here)
Wonder how much Sony paid em to write that.....

I bet when they review the Samsung BD player even if the remote explodes when they hit the power button they give it a 10.
9.2

The good: The Picture is incredible, right on par with the Toshiba HD-A1 player. Has the future ability to output the image into the highest possible 1080p.

The bad: When the remote exploded and the acid SPEWED OUT it did burn my skin right down to the bone and it ruined a pair of my pants, I tried to hide those at the bottom of the hamper so my mom wouldn't yell, Alas my mom found them only the next morning and BOY WAS SHE MAD!!! She said that she would buy me any new pants because these ones were, "RUINED, JUST RUINED!!" and I had no respect for the cost of things!!! Some people, I know what the worth of stuff is I told her I paid twice what I should have for the latest technological blunder from the people that brought us Betamax!!!

The bottom line: NO mater what we said before, the Samsung BD-1000 is not only dollar for dollar $1000 dollars.... The picture is on par with the Toshiba HD-A1 at TWICE THE PRICE... this one is a no brainer!! Besides we are still not getting Native 1080p anyways but hey we is "Gettin' PAID (by Sony!)"

Geeze. Can't you HD-DVD fanboys take any criticism of your player? I certainly didn't perceive any hatred in the article.

(For the record, I just want a player that gives me high definition movies without any glitches--be it a HD-DVD player or a Blu-Ray player. And I hope CNET is twice as critical when the Blu-Ray players arrive.)

(I guess since there are only a handful of HD-DVD movies on the shelves, you HD-DVD fanboys don't have many movies with which to fill your viewing time so you have to spend your idle hours taking pot shots at any review that criticizes your precious machine. :p

I am a fanboy of a system that doesn't cost me an arm and a leg... Toshiba proved they could do it... Fanboy that.

I owned an Intellivision when everyone had Atari... Fanboy that.

BESIDES when some site is bashing BD you will do exactly as we are, you will feel that when it is done WEEKLY by a website that it is getting blatant and rediculous.

PS... since you BD fanboys don't have ANYTHING on the shelf for the forseeable future you have nothing better to do than to come online and talk about how great your none-existant format is... jesh

I have owned two Toshiba RPTVs and loved them both. I have owned three Toshiba DVD players and thought they were marvelous. I own two Toshiba notebook computers (and am typing this on one right now) and I wouldn't trade them for any other brand.

I owned a Toshiba HD-DVD player and returned it because it was a mediocre player at best. That's the facts, Jack! :D
No you are wrong, opinions are like A-holes... Everyone has one and everyone this the other persons stinks... that is the facts... I have had nearly zero problems so far and to me that is saying something of a product... sure the remote sucks... HOWEVER I have never used it so i wouldn't know, my remote makes this just as good as anyother system I have owned, now THAT is a REAL FACT, because it is not a fact I made up it is a fact that I have witnessed and live with.... Sweet dreams all... visions of sugar plums.

 Hmmm. You're sure the remote sucks, but you never used it. (I wonder how you can be so sure it sucks, then.) So, in order to make the Toshiba as good as another system I need to splash out some more money for a universal remote to make the player work correctly. Is that what you're trying to say?

(Sounds like the Toshiba HD-DVD "system" (with added universal remote) costs close to the price of a Blu-Ray player. (Wait. If I open the case and add a heat sink and replace the loud fan with one that is less noisy, I can have a machine that equals the price of a Blu-Ray player. What a bargain! :p )

(Just so you know, I truly dislike Sony and hope that Panasonic or Pioneer can come out with a Blu-Ray player that is "bug free." If they fail, I hope that somebody in the HD-DVD camp can give us a trouble-free player. I have no allegiance to either side. I just want to enjoy high definition movies with no hassles.)

I have to say that I have never experienced such a disconnect between my own experience and many professional reviews. It's not so much that the criticisms are not accurate, they are just so out of proportion considering what this player delivers. I also know six other people personally who have this player, and they all love it. What can I say? Is it because it's a new format? is it resistance to change? uncertainty over the format war? a combination of all three? I am perplexed.
Dont understand what is so wrong with the article - they are saying the player has several annoying problems (well documented in these forums) and they think their money will be better spent when a 'better' model comes out. You guys cant wait and are prepared to compromise and they are not. Sounds reasonable to me.

The demo this twit is talking about clearly states the image on the right side of the screen is "Standard Definition" nowhere do they ever imply the image is standard definition DVD. This dude is simply continuing his hatchet attack against HD DVD and using his professional position to do so in a very unprofessional manner.

If I felt I was making a compromise with my player I would return the player so don't be so quick to judge why owners here of this fine player are not returning it. The only "compromise I could possibly be accused would relate to the remote however I use a MX600 universal for all my equipment. I don't care if the remote were gold plated, diamond studded, and had a hydraulic lift for the battery compartment door I would continue to use my MX600.

"It's slow and has HDMI issues,"
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wont any other HD-DVD or Blu-ray player have the same HDMI issues he's experienced the HD-A1. They all follow the same spec.

As for slow, everyone knows it's more PC based compared to a normal player. For a saving of $500 I don't see the issue.

I have always felt hdmi with HDCP is an accident waiting to happen. I have to wonder what cnet will say when they discover the soon to be launched Samsung BD player is also computer based, is running Linux, and also has a longer than normal boot time?
Again....this review is meant for Joe Average....and not the enthusiast.

My player was far worse than average with bugs/quirks and player lockup....but I will buy another when there are some firmware upgrades acknowledged...because I am an enthusiast.

But you can't expect these reviews directed at average consumers to reccomend the player itself.

I don't believe I have seen a single review that had a player with no problems....but at least they all agree it looks good.

Average consumers are not buying these yet for the most part....but if they were, can you imagine the return rate?
