I think I changed my mind and going with the panny 42pwd6uy instead of DLP. I 've read that stretching is no big deal but my question is if I channel surf back and forth from 16:9 to 4:3 do I have to stretch every time it goes to 4:3? Also, I'm a satelite user, how do I get it to broadcast in 16:9?

Also, is there anything else I need to complete my home entertainment center? beside speakers? We're buying a new house and we are getting custom cabinets to fit the TV so I'm buying quickly. Thanks

Wow,

No you don't have to stretch 4:3 every time...just make sure to vary your material say 4:3 for a while then 16:9, etc.

For sat you can have the panel do a stretch (change the aspect ratio) "Justified" works very well for me.

My friend you need more than speakers for HT. I would go with a 5.1 (denon, onkyo, yamaha, etc.) receiver to save some $$ and of course a nice set of 5.1 speakers and DVD player (panasonic or denon are very well regarded on these forums). You need to go listen to the different receivers and speakers to ascertain what sounds good to your ears.

You're in for some fun.

Any more questions, just ask!

Panny will stay in the last mode used. If connected via svideo, component, or DVI, I believe it will recognize a 16:9 format and display accordingly.

As far as custom cabinets for your set up, make sure you have decent ventilation for your components and room for your speakers. You'll want space for... 7.1 speakers (Left, Center, Right, Sub, L/R Surround, L/R Rear. Pre-running cables might help, even if you don't have all the speakers now, having room to place them will be nice

No it does not. The other channels will be SD (4:3) The HD will automatically be 16:9. I have Dish with the HD pack and the HD channels look excellent on my panny. BTW, you are only able to view HD via component, not composite nor s-video.

Just to clarify... if I am watching 16:9 SD material on a plasma, it automatically recognizes that the material is 16:9 and fills the screen? I will be watching via DVI from an HD TiVo to (hopefully) a 50PHD6UY.

Yep. 16:9 will come into these units as 16:9. For example DVD's are SD (480i) and are also 16:9.
