I have a firewire cable but it is larger on one side. I need something that takes the same fitting that fits the 30000 on both ends. Is there a name for this cable. Where do you order one?

Thanks!

Firewire cables come in either 4 pin or 6 pin. 6 pin has power.

The stuff you are working with needs a 4 pin. This can be gotten by

buying a 4pin to 4 pin, or you could buy a short adapter, 6 pin to 4 pin to do the same thing. I have all the above and just move them around.

Alan,

The small, 4 pin, connectors are very fragile, particularly the jacks that are in the recorders. Some firewire cables are too thick and heavy for the 4 pin connector, and the resulting forces tend to loosen the normally snug fit of the plug to the jack, resulting in poor connections and eventual failure of the jack.

The connectors and cables used for DV cameras are firewire, and can be used for DVHS. They are generally very flexible, and good quality; and they are readily available in shops that sell DV cameras. For best results use a cable that's as short as possible.
